This has probably been posted elsewhere in the forum, but the original IT miniseries is (finally) getting a Bluray release in October. Along with Bluray releases for two other King adaptations - the original Salem's Lot miniseries and Cat's Eye.

I recently rewatched Salems Lot. It's pretty good, but seriously drags at points. Cats Eye is an amazing King adaptation and great movie. Not sure why anyone could not like it (except maybe the final segment with Barrymore which is the weakest part). IT is fine, Curry is exceptional, but it's showing its age.

I recently caught Cats Eye on cable and was surprised how well it has held up. The original IT is great when the kids are on screen. When the adults take the reigns the wheels come off.

I know it's been discussed that IT will be split into 2 parts but has it been decided if kids/adults is how they're going to divide it?
Edit: I just looked back at some of the film's news and that does indeed seem to be the plan. Somehow I missed that before.

Hmm, that's an interesting point. Split it into 2 movies and have part 1 focus on the characters when they're kids and part 2 focus on them when they're adults. I like it!

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Andrés Muschietti’s adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel It will be rated R. There aren’t many King adaptations that turn out PG-13, and the reason is that there’s really no upside. The amount of teenager viewers you could draw in is negated by the fans of the book you’ll lose who know that to do the novel justice, you’ll have to give it an R rating. Also, we know that “R” isn’t necessarily a death knell for a movie, especially if it has a reasonable budget (and no one expects a film based on It to cost the same as a superhero blockbuster).
Steve Weintraub recently spoke to producer Dan Lin at the press day for The LEGO Batman Movie, and Lin confirmed that It, which he’s also producing, is going to be rated R:
While Lin didn’t go into detail on whether or not this was a “Hard-R”, I think it’s reasonable to expect that this isn’t just going to be a PG-13 movie with a few F-bombs dropped in. It’s going to be scary, it’s probably going to be a little gory, and that’s what everyone expects to see.
Fans of the book also know that the clown terrorizing kids is only half the story. The second half of the book follows the kids as adults, and Lin confirms that their plan is to make a sequel about the adults assuming the first movie is a success.
Check out the video above. It opens September 8th. Look for more from Steve’s interview with Dan Lin soon.

DAN LIN: It is a rated-R movie. If you’re going to make a “Rated-R movie”, you have to fully embrace what it is, and you have to embrace the source material. It is a scary clown that’s trying to kill kids. So of course that’s going to be a rated-R movie. The kids are amazing. You very much get a Stand by Me vibe as far as their camaraderie and the way they joke with each other and that they really care for each other. They do have a scary crown that’s taken over the town of Derry, so it’s going to be rated R.

Shouldn't we be getting a trailer? It opens in seven months, and we still haven't gotten a teaser.

I hope this is something special. But I have to remind myself that it might be just another forgettable scary movie. Seems like there's a market for those. We get 5-10 each year. Because it's IT, I hope it's elevated and memorable.

So they're only adapting the part about the kids and they're leaving the adult part for a possible sequel? That's fucking idiotic.

More like a 2 hour movie. No studio would release an R-Rated, 3 hour horror movie now a days. To try to fit both stories into one movie would never have worked.
I think this movie would have to bomb pretty badly for the sequel to not get green-lit. Sets are built and a crew is in place. The 2nd movie shouldn't be that expensive to produce.

I thought that It was just being split in two like Deathly Hallows or Mockingjay (although along "then" and "now" lines), and that getting the second part was a done deal.

This is more like a Bakshi Lord of the Rings.

If anyone values Stephen King's opinion...

“It” doesn’t hit theaters for another six months, but at least one person has seen it: Stephen King. The oft-adapted horror writer, whose 1986 novel was previously turned into a miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown, is said to have watched — and, crucially, enjoyed — the upcoming film version directed by Andrés Muschietti.
“Steve asked me to pass along that he saw a screening of IT today and wanted to let everybody know that they should stop worrying about it as the producers have done a wonderful job with the production,” reads a message posed to Instagram by “It” producer Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.”
This new adaptation hasn’t had the smoothest of productions, as its development dates back to 2009 and original co-writer/director Cary Fukunaga (“True Detective”) departed the project in 2015.
King hasn’t always been happy with adaptations of his novels, most famously “The Shining” — he’s called Stanley Kubrick a man who “thinks too much and feels too little.” Bill Skarsgĺrd, Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis and Finn Wolfhard star in “It,” which is scheduled for release on September 8.

The article writer. Working in that anecdote about King disliking the Shining is utterly irrelevant to the story.
1. It's old news, it's been repeated endlessly
2. If anything noting King's opinion of the Shining indicates his judgment can't be trusted
3. Bringing it up is irrelevant. Notice how the writer just drops it in as a non sequitor and the next sentence is about the cast of It. Terrible writing.

Working it in struck me more as a jab at King. "He thinks 'It' is good, but he also thought 'The Shining' was horrible."
