If the stuff in the movie is true so what.
But wouldn't a Bill Clinton movie be more exciting?
Think of all the sex the movie would have. And then that White House suicide.
Wonder if Stone thought about it or why Hollywood wouldn't want to make it.

When I saw the publicity shots of Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks in an article regarding the casting of W., I could see George and Laura in their faces. I imagined a little hair dye and makeup would further blur the lines between art and reality. But after seeing them in the trailer, I'm disappointed. They have only passing resemblances. They look more like sketch comedy actors who are playing these people as caricatures. The entire cast does. And why doesn't James Cromwell sound anything at all like George H.W. Bush?

I saw this trailer before 'Swing Vote' and the whole audience let out a big groan. If everyone hates him so much, why would anyone really want to go see this? He's still in office!

Not only that but a large portion of the movie going audience goes to the theater for an escape. If it's something like "Titanic" it's not a big deal because well, nobody who saw the film lived through that, it was back in 1914.
Bush is STILL president and all we ever hear about is Bush this, Bush that, etc.... Most people don't want to see a movie about him, at least not right now.

i agree. The movie seems like its gonna be pretty one sided, so Bush supporters will stay away... and Bush haters will stay away because they are sick of hearing about him and cant wait to move on.
Who exactly does Oliver Stone think he is?

Here is the first clip fro the film and we get a chance to actually see what the tone of the film may be i think. I still think Brolin bears even less of a resemblance to Bush than Hopkins did as Nixon but I'm ok with it I guess since he is a good actor. I think the movie is shaping up to be pretty niteresting and I am getting excited for it.

Having just recently seen Nixon for the first time, I can add that both Hopkins and Brolin look nothing like the people they play, but at the same time they are completely embodied into the roles.

Anyone else think that Josh Brolin looks like Jeff Bridges on that poster?
I dunno about the movie. Looks alright. That clip reminds me of Ray and Walk the Line (and maybe Walk Hard). I hope that it doesn't get too cheapie and has more to offer than what's in the clip.

Yeah I agree. Especially with this one being so soon, and not decades later like Nixon. It's probably best that they're not exact likenesses, at least physically. (I thought Brolin's mannerisms were pretty spot on, without overdoing it) I thought the clip was pretty good.

I'll say it again, too: Richard Dreyfuss was a spot on choice for Cheney. I'd hoped for Tommy Lee Jones or James Woods (frequent Stone flyer), but the way Dreyfuss is made up and the fact that his crankiness is a perfect fit for the role is just too awesome.

Seriously, that clip has me intrigued. Josh Brolin just nails him; that's spot on. Sign me up.

You know, I take back what I said earlier. They may not be perfect visual matches to their real life counterparts, but better to have the actors inhabit their roles with precision than have uncanny resemblances.
This looks to be done in the tradition of Primary Colors. If done right, it could be quite good. Still don't think James Cromwell is the best choice for H.W., but I'll reserve full judgment until I've seen it.

I'm about halfway through the script and I'm pleasantly surprised. The writer said "it will be too left for righties and too right for lefties" and I have to agree with that. The film flashbacks scenes of W. in college, working, becoming the president split with scenes of him and the staff deciding to go to war. The flashback scenes portray him as a pretty sympathic character while the flashforward scenes make him look like a vengeful bafoon. Colin Powell played by Jeffrey Wright is the lone voice of reason in Bush's crazy circle. Cheney comes off a lot more likeable than Bush does in those scenes. I'm only half-way there but so far I like it quite a bit. and I voted for Bush twice.
