In a move that may, or may not surprise you, Duke from GI Joe Rise of Cobra, aka Channing Tatum, has stated that he does not like action movies. Inthenews.co.uk talked with Tatum about his recent work, and it turns out, he prefers drama over action:
"I don't like action movies!" he laughed. "They're not that interesting. They're fun to do because of the physical element, I guess, but most of the exciting stuff, like running into an exploding building, they won't let you do that!"
He continued: "There's something absolutely exhilarating about [a scene of] sitting on a beach with someone and just opening up and trying to be really honest."

That's no surprise given Tatum rejected the first movie originally. JGL had to convince him to do it.

EXCLUSIVE
"G.I. Joe" director Stephen Sommers will return to direct Paramount's sequel, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.
There had been some doubts about whether Sommers would be brought back into the "Joe" fold, as there were conflicting reports across the blogosphere last summer that there had been some tension between Sommers and the studio, but the alleged bad blood appears to have been resolved.
Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as Capt. Duke Hauser in the sequel, which is still in development at Paramount.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Collider reported earlier this year that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick ("Zombieland") were hired to write the sequel, and I'm told that the studio is happy with the draft they turned in.
Sommers will likely produce with Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" grossed more than $300 million worldwide last year on a reported production budget of $175 million, not including prints and advertising.
Sommers previously directed "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing," and he has a "Tarzan" movie in development at Warner Bros.
Sommers is represented by WME.

Yay! (for the last one as well)
So since Sommers is directing, we are still going to get the stupid-ass look for Cobra Commander since he doesn't want anyone to be offended if Commander wears his KKK hood. Maybe he'll do the metal face shield this time.
And maybe Joseph Gordon-Levitt can convince Sommers to settle down with the CGI. Gordon-Levitt was in the coolest non-CGI action scene this year (Inception) so maybe he can inspire Sommers to do some unique action scenes that don't go overboard with the CGI.

You act like he didn't know wtf he was getting into. He did it and he enjoyed it, in fact he was crazy nuts about being in it...like super happy. Guess he really likes G.I. Joe? he's a smart actor..let him enjoy doing fun stuff while he also does the...more...acting stuff.

Actually, JGL didn't want anything to do with the movie because he thought it was promoting war. He agreed cos Tatum (his best friend) convinced him to read the script. JGL saw it was just a fun adventure movie so he decided to do it. Then his super excitement began.
I hope he does return but they revert him back to his Doctor persona. He was great in that role. It's the CC moments at the end that sucked.

Also, that same idiot producer tried his hardest to get the fight between young Storm Shadow and young Snake Eye's (the best fight in the movie) cut from the movie entirely cos he though it was stupid.
Whoever the fuck that producer is, that's who they need to keep the fuck away from the sequel.
Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Tatum isnt the greatest in the world (yeah I know, huge understatement) but he was hardly the biggest problem with the first one (and I had fun with it). I would take a whole cast of Tatum's if that meant Wayans wasnt back.

No Sommers?

Fine by me if it means we can get a better looking Cobra Commander.

A conversation my friends and I had after watching the first one in theaters is that Sommers should've been the one to helm Transformers and Michael Bay should've been the one to helm G.I. Joe.

While we do have Aronofsky doing Wolverine, it is hard to imagine a director with any credibility wanting this sequel. I could see McG but it looks like he just landed another gig.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
If I had to name directors that should get the job (trying to keep realistic here because most the greats would not touch this) I'd go with Shane Black and maybe Steven Norrington. I'd love if Rodriguez or Wachowski Bros got the nod... but I think the studio wants someone they can keep their eyes on.
