I'm in! I haven't been to a theater since COVID began, but I'll go for a spectacle like this.

Re: Avatar: The Way of Water (2022, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

Looks good. I’ve said it before but two effects that look fantastic in 3D are underwater floating objects and things in flight. This movie looks like it has both of those in spades. If nothing else, this will look amazing on the big screen in 3D!

The underwater effects look great. I’m worried about the overall story which looks like more “Evil human developers being evil and destroying the planet.” I guess we’ll see but also, people won’t be showing up in droves to see this in the theater for the story.

so is he basically saying "don't see this in theaters, wait for it to be on disc or streaming"?

^ I think he’s saying go see it in theaters despite the long run time. It’s ok to stand up and go pee while you’re watching a long movie so don’t let the length keep you from going to the theater. He also doesn’t want to hear people bitching about the length when they regular binge TV shows at home.

I plan to see it in December. Just got to make sure you don’t consume too much liquids. Unless you have the bladder of an 80 year old.

I wonder how much the water aspect in the movie will make people have to go pee? It’s one thing to watch a 3 hour movie without having to pee. It’s another thing to watch a 3 hour movie that takes almost exclusively in and around water, particularly splashing and sloshing water sounds, without having to pee.

Does the runpee app still exist?

Ugh, this looks like what would happen if you fell asleep listening to Yes albums while on acid. No thanks.

People can stop and restart when they binge watch at home.

How many years since the first film does this take place? I get that Jake's family would all speak English but it's weird that even the water tribe speak it like a first language.

Yeah, I admit the actual story content (what little there was) of the trailer left me so underwhelmed that's all I thought about.

Nah. I’ll eat my hat if Cameron ignores a detail like that.

I always liked the way 13th Warrior handled the translation.

I guess Cameron is going all-out on the digital FX this time...this looks like a completely computer-animated film. I was hoping for more of a mixture of practical and CGI.

Well ... maybe don't do it while you are watching the movie. Please use the conveniently located exits at the back to access the restrooms.

On second thought ... nah, go ahead.

You don’t want to miss any of the movie, do you?

It's a water movie, it's essentially encouraging you to let it fly!

See it in a 4DX theater, then you can let loose with the pee and people will think it's just part of the experience.

They should set up a bank of latrines or porta-potties at the front of the theater to make it convenient for audience members.

I guess people have tiny bladder. Just don't drink a lot a few hours BEFORE the movie so your bladder doesn't fill up before the movie starts. Pee right before the movie to completely empty your bladder. Take it easy drinking at the beginning of the movie. Avoid drinking a natural diuretic like coffee, tea or beer during the movie beginning. Works for me and I've never missed a minute in a theater.

What cracks me up and is especially irritating are the people who get up to go pee within the first 15 minutes of the movie. Seriously, wtf. You had 20+ minutes of commercials and trailers.

So is there any comprehensive list of theaters where you can be guaranteed to see this in HFR?

edit: I think I figured it out, at least for locations near me.

There's a glitch and I can't order tickets for this at my favorite theater. I have a hard time believing it won't be playing on any screens there, but nothing is showing up on the AMC app or web page at present.

Looking at AMC Theatres, and they're showing three different 3D options: IMAX, Real D, and Dolby. Anyone here have experience the latter two options? Not sure which option to choose. Thanks for any advice!
