Harry Potter won't get any serious nominations because most people still think of it as children's entertainment.

Moreso than Toy Story 3?

Animation is viewed differently than live action. Wish it wasn't, but it is.

Sorry, I don't get your point. I think TS3 is considered more for kids than Potter, yet TS3 got a Best Picture nom. Granted it was 1 of 10, but still...

Animation is considered more for kids, so when an animated movie comes out that appeals to more than kids, it's more impressive than a live action film that appeals to a wide range of ages.

James Berardinelli just tweeted that it was a good movie, but said the 3D was horrid, on par with Clash of the Titans and The Last Airbender. I was hoping WB would scrap the 3D like they did with Part 1, here's hoping it looks decent on IMAX 3D.

People that choose 3D deserve the discomfort.

FYI there are no longer 10 automatic spots. Based on voting there can be as few as 5 or as many as 10 depending on how the voting for nominations goes. They have to recieve 5% of first place votes to be nominated.

We're running a HP marathon at our house as well. First 5 on HD-DVD and last 2 on Blu. We hope to be finished before the weekend. We just watched Azkaban.

Same here. Watching Askaban right now. Can't wait for this weekend.

Good to know about the 3D. Will stick to the 2D showing.

Just for curiosity, I looked at the midnight showings list and there's a lot of sold-out shows around town. Much like "Revenge of the Sith" they keep adding more showings.

I was able to see this Monday evening, and it was a great movie. I feel that this is my #1 movie of the summer blockbusters. Having not finished the book series yet, I can't comment on if they missed anything pertinent from the book. I will definitely be seeing this again in the next week or so, but just in 2D. No reason to pay extra for the 3D when I don't recall anything really popping from the screen.

In Vegas, all 4 IMAX 3D presentations and 1 Real-D 3D presentation have sold out. On the opposite side, 19 (!!!) 2D showings have already been sold out.

There's still 25+ 2D showings where tickets are up for grabs and 20+ 3D showings where tickets are still available.

Even looking at the weekend here in Vegas, most theaters have booked the film in 2D rather than 3D.

I believe Twilight: Eclipse has the current record for midnight grosses with $30 million. Curious to see if HP7 Pt 2 can match that.

I think it has a decent shot at taking down TDK's $158 million opening record.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (Yates, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

I wanna see this in 2-d but unfortunately the marathon at my theater has it where I'd have to switch screens to get to the 2-d screen at which time I'd get a crappy seat. So I decided to play it safe and stick with the 3-d screen.

My mind thinks I'm too old for a midnight screening, but waking up early to see a 6am screening wouldn't be so bad. I wonder if you'd get matinee prices!

The midnight sales are a great sign and Friday will be gigantic, but Saturday will probably tell us if it has a shot.

The way my theater charges, I doubt it.

If I'm any indication, it'll make infinity% more money than TF3 ever will.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (Yates, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Just watched #5 and am on #6 now.

The glasses are a fun concept: tons of people are going to hold on to theirs as a souvenir and theaters'll have to stock them by the bucketfuls. I'm not a huge fan of 3D myself, but I wanted to see it in IMAX, and the 3D goes with it.
