Movies you like that everyone around you hates

Halloween II (1981)
While the '78 original is considered a masterpiece for good reason, the one directed by Rosenthal was just plain eerier, more chilling, and more raw. A lot of it is hindered by some inexplicable silliness (like the hospital being manned by just about no one), but there are parts like Jamie Lee Curtis being chased by Michael Myers while all drugged up. I think it's that unmistakably 80s electronic score that brings the chills most of all.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 mostly for the world Verbinski created, but I also really enjoyed the story it told. It also has some great set pieces, including the opening to part 3 with the line to the gallows. Not a lot of tent pole movies would start off by hanging a child.

The Cable Guy: I think was when Jim Carrey was at his best and most edgy, but he got so much crap and bad reviews for this movie, he went all soft with Liar Liar for his next movie and was never the same. Most of my friends didn't like this movie, but I thought it was a very funny movie.
Kingpin: Although Dumb and Dumber and Theres Something About Mary are the holy grail for The Farrelly Bros, I really liked Kingpin. I think why many people hate this movie is because the characters are so unlikeable, but I think its hysterical.

I'll go with this one. It's an immensely well made film. Insane effects for the day. It's also kind of the last time the TOS cast looks like the back in the day TOS cast. You might not dig it but if you are a film fan you have to respect the attempt.
Halloween III and Let It Ride would be my alts.

Wow, I didn't know Let It Ride was known well enough to be hated. I love this movie, especially the camerawork. When I ran a video store, this movie wouldn't play 30 minutes before someone asked what it was and rented it.

Here's one that I doubt anyone will give me a
on:
The Tourist
I actually found it to be a fun little movie, with great scenery/shots, and is a quirky, guilty pleasure.

This is more based on the number of times I have seen people mention they hate the film or oft-mentioned within "most undeserved Oscars" threads:
The English Patient
There is one scene that I consider to be a substantial flaw, where the screenwriter for a little too cute with the dialogue, but other than that easily-overlooked scene, this is a beautiful, wonderfully-performed, sometimes brutal, touching and incredibly romantic film. It also features one of the more amazing original scores in film history.

Transformers The Movie (1986)
Definitely a product of its time just at the Bayformers are a product of theirs. And I'm good with that. The power ballads shouldn't work, but they do. It lifts it's 3-act plot pretty liberally from the original Star Wars, but so does the 2009 Star Trek--and no one is allowed to publicly criticize that movie EVER--so by the transitive property no one should criticize this one either.
Also, this movie is like an animated, kid-oriented Saving Private Ryan. As a kid, seeing your beloved tv heroes getting slaughtered on screen just so the company can put out a new wave of toys is about the most fucked up thing I've ever heard of. Traumatizing, but it put hair on my chest.

Robin Hood (the new one). I skipped it in theaters so i've only seen the director's cut, but I fucking love this movie.
2012. its absurd, but i love it. Waterworld as well.
