Previous to the 2000s? Yes I would agree. However, now I would say Wolverine is more well known since he seems to be the focal point of most things Marvel does.

Hulk was well known in previous generations due to the Lou Ferrigno TV series, but I doubt many young people today under 30 have even heard of that show let alone seen it.

Captain America would have been very familiar with our grandparents as WWII propaganda, but I doubt if he is nearly as familiar with the younger generations.

Not very often (I like the DCAU and the Clone Wars animated stuff and that's about it), and I really doubt the general public does either. You really think the average Joe Six Pack adult sits down and watches cartoons? Really? Cartoons have the same stigma that comic books have in that most people see them as being only for children.

I think sometimes you guys forget that DVDTalk is full of the more hardcore movie/TV watching crowd. We are NOT a good representative of the overall population at all.

I didnt mean for this generation... but if you go back 10-20 years... then unless you lived under a rock. You would've heard of Iron Man, Hulk, Cap.

Wolverine has been popular now for what 20 years half of those years more so in comics then tv/movies.

I stop collecting comic probably about 10 years ago and aside from magazines and commercials I know next ti zero about GoTG.

In terms of recognition among the general public, Spidey and the X-Men are Marvel's big guns (and of course Wolverine is the most recognizable X-Man), or at least were until the movies exploded the popularity of Iron Man. Before the MCU, I would expect some people had heard of Iron Man and others hadn't. I would think most people would have been aware of the existance of Cap and Hulk, just thru peripheral pop culture, even if they don't know much about them. I don't expect anyone but big time Marvel comic readers to recognize GotG.

I rest my case. Kick-Ass didn't even break 100 million worldwide, and the only reason it made a profit was because of an extremely small budget. Watchmen not only sucked(imo), but it lost quite a lot of money, based soley on box office take.

As for nobody knowing who Iron-Man and Thor are, you're not serious are you? The vast majority knew who they were, even if they weren't the most popular comic book characters. They were also fun movies with good marketing.

The cast is also not the kind who is going to bring people to the movie theaters. Chris Pratt, Del Toro, Lee Pace, Bautista, are not box office draws. It's possible the film could be a success, but I have a feeling it better be hellaciously good.

I'm really excited about this movie. A superhero movie without any major hangups from the fans (well, maybe thats a bit much since many peeps got their panties in a twist over the MCU version of the Mandarin. The MANDARIN!!!) All these new characters with, from what I read, a swashbucklin' attitude and an original Star Wars feel. I really, really, hope Marvel can pull this off. The Cosmic MCU. Who would a thunk it?!?!

BTW, it's funny how there is no mention/plans for the most Cosmic Marvel hero of all. Hmmmmmmmm.

You mean Silver Surfer? Its because Sony or Fox (whoever owns the Fantastic Four movie rights) owns both Silver Surfer and Galactus. Remember the awful Fantastic Four movie with Galactus as a motherfucking cloud....

I wish Marvel would get the Fantastic Four movie rights back so we could get a proper Galactus/Silver Surfer movie done right.

I'm so fucking excited for this. I LOVE this team. I ESPECIALLY love Groot and Rocket. Rumors flying that Groot is voiced by Diesel, which would work. Still unknown for Rocket. I just know Rocket will have some amazingly badass moment that will be like a Hulk moment in The Avengers. I fucking love that character so much. It's so zany and badass.
