That Maz Kanata stuff is interesting especially since her part seemed to be edited down from the trailers.
Also, what was the deal with Max Von Sydow's character? His part was ridiculously small, but there seemed to be some major back story there. I almost thought he was going to be Kanan from Rebels, which would have been cool.

I don't recall her in the trailers, mainly because I tried to go into this as blindly as I could. But I was enjoying the Maz Kanata character as a whole.

She was also seen handing over Luke's saber to Leia, which never happened.

I have my ticket for tomorrow night, and I am going into it with a very open mind, but something is bothering me and it needs to be said. Star Wars has been a franchise with a fanbase of mostly young boys and nerdy guys. The fact that a woman is in the lead is very problematic to me, and the filmmakers only did it to please the social justice warriors and the third reich feminists. Instead of continuing to cast the leads in regards to who makeup the fan base, they catered to the crazies. If you are a woman and a Star Wars fan, respect that you like a boy centered franchise. This is further prove of the war on men, and a cultural attack that proves guys cant have anything to call their own anymore.

Maybe go see the Point Break remake instead?
Seriously, I didn't think about who was cast for a second while watching it. Good characters are good characters, and they were acted well and have good chemistry.

I will see it tomorrow, but if Disney will continue to marginalizing who are the majority of the fan base I will not support such movies going forward.

And for the record, there were more women in my theater last night than there were black dudes. If any segment of the fan base is being marginalized by Disney, it's white people.

I enjoyed the hell of this movie but the more I think about it the more I find the blatant rehashing of the original movie to be unacceptable. That was always my #1 criticism of Jedi and it's literally 10x the rehash Jedi was. You can't tell me the only story they possibly could have written is nearly a setpiece-by-setpiece remake.
The strength of the writing was in the dialogue and characterization but they just threw up their hands and gave up on the plotting. It doesn't ruin the movie but it certainly isn't a trivial flaw.
Still a tremendously entertaining movie but the lazy plotting is enough to place it firmly behind Mad Max as the genre movie of the year in my eyes.

Fuck your mentality.
Jesus Titty Fuckin' Christ. Do you have such a small dick that you've got make dumb fuck posts like that?
Some of us are just waiting for you to call Finn a N igger.
Get over it, bro. You find out that women like SW too? Even back in the day... some women liked SW. SW is a fun thing. Fun has no gender. Typically SW is a guy thing cuz it's a genre that has for so long been ingrained as a male type of thing. We can't say it wasn't. But... we have badass women too in our world. Does it bother you that a woman can possibly do the same fucking things that a man does?
You do know that women can kick ass too? What's wrong w/ SW having Rey being someone front in center? She's just a character doing her thing. I'm amazed that you're not bitching that *gasp* There's some white people sprinkled in w/ hispanics, asians, blacks, whatever else of a human minority we got to fill in. It's not your Old White Man world. Fuck that. It holds us back as fucking culture. You're the problem. Fuck your lot.
I get some people are pussies and like to bitch. Those stereotypical SJW types. And while they have no backing to their bitching except emotions. Some of us... actually are very fucking grounded to being as objective as we can to the the environment.
Is it wrong to respect women? To maybe look up to a gal and think she's the type of person you want be? Not even fucking factoring in that she's a woman. As a goddamn fucking person. I'm a mexican guy who grew up in a culture birthed out of the machismo. Sure... Machismo as a guy is kind of fun cuz it is a cultural thing but it has also lessened a bit in the years. That fucking mentality is so goddamn ingrained in mexican culture that knocking down as far as it has? Was a goddamn miracle. Small improvements in the culture cuz it's so massive. Women were always fucking second. I never understood that as a kid. I chuckled at it cuz I was a kid and I don't get things at that age. But I always thought it was fucking weird and wrong that women weren't equal to the men. It's just wrong. We're all fucking equal as the templates we are. We've some differences between the two that is INHERENT that they're there for some fucking reason. That's cool and the whatnot. Still... fucking equals though. This isn't sports where differences in the bodies would make a difference for some.
The film is pretty good. The film actually VERY FUCKING WELL makes smart subtle note of Rey being a woman as she is. It's very well written how they tackle her.
You're the backwards mentality. Get the fuck over it. There's always someone better than you. And it could be a black guy. A woman. A black woman. Or whatever. The world isn't your White Man land. And it never was. It just looked that way cuz of the circumstances in the times.
Daisy Ridley was the right fucking person for the job. It could have been played by a male even, aside from like 2 little bits that are more associated w/ women.
You got to let that weak minded mentality die. Women can be leads in the SW world. They can be bombastic heroes in the wastelands of Mad Max. They're about to make a female Marvel film. They're doing Wonder Woman right now.
Women are the same as Men. And there's no fucking reason they can't play in the playground that boys do for saving the day.

He had the same reaction to Ghostbusters for the same reason. It's not unexpected.

Doesn't stop it from being bullshit.
Am I pissed that they're all women? No.
It does seem iffy though cuz all they did was switch the genders instead of adding a cultural and visual variety. It's Paul Feig's film. It's got Melissa McCarthy. And etc. It's got issues already just based as a template. I don't know if it'll suck. I can't say anything about that.
But him w/ having a woman being a badass. I hope he's ok w/ a black guy being this front and goddamn center. Jesus, man.

I have a suspicion that Ghostbusters has been intentionally feminized. Not getting that vibe from Star Wars at all, though.

I actually wouldn't care if Finn was the main lead. Ghostbusters was intentionally feminized.
