The cool thing about all these trailers (which I have loved) is that I still have no clue what's going on beyond the good vs evil story.

Really? The plot seems pretty well fleshed out at this point.

Spoiler:
Finn's with a group of Stormtroopers who raid a village. Afterwards he decides to quit, steals a Tie Fighter and makes it down to Jakku where he meets up with Rey. Tie Fighters attack, and Finn and Rey somehow wind up on the Falcon. Han gets them out there and presumably take them to meet Leia.

Later on Leia's forces attack a First Order base, there's a massive air battle, and somewhere in there the Falcon, piloted by Rey, crashes. She and Finn get into a fight with Ren, the Force awakens, the end.

I get all that, since it's a literal interpretation of the imagery we've been given. But, we still don't know the why of it, what Luke's role is, how everyone is connected (other than conjecture). You know, what's driving the actual story.

There are many presumptions in your synopsis. But even if every one of them is accurate, it still very simplistic, and has many gaps - "somehow", "later on", "somewhere in there", etc.

I am confident there will be much more to the story than this.

It's definitely my favorite. I probably should have avoided watching any trailers because my hype level for this movie is probably the same as it was before Phantom Menace came out. I'm just setting myself up for another letdown!

Funnily enough, I was watching this video last night:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ODgwL7DJ9dY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you dig through the comments (I know, I know), there's a guy who argues that it's okay that there aren't any Asian actors in Star Wars because there's no Asia in a galaxy far, far away.

Before there was a slight pause after finish now not really a pause just a different tone in his voice.
I like the previous version more.

So what is Maz's power from her eyes? Healing? Like Vergere's tears from the New Jedi Order books? Well, it probably won't be that.

^ It's probably dangerous, since she has to wear those goggles all the time. Maybe she's the Star Wars version of Scott Summers.

Very cool to see JW conducting! Lots of brass as expected...but I'm really hoping we get some deep strings...violins, cello, etc... that seemed to be missing from the prequels.

I am doing the same, though I started earlier as it takes me a while to watch movies (darn kids). It is kind of mind blowing to go from the PTs to the OTs--the storytelling is on another level in Star Wars.

I forgot how much I love that first one. Just the idea of having them rescue the princess and then she turns around and saves them--fantastic. Little moments like Chewbacca getting scared of some strange noise off in the distance, or Obi Wan not buying Han's spiel but using him anyway. C3PO is so well performed that you never once think that there's a man in the suit. It's such a simple story and easy to follow, yet there is so much going on with the characterizations. Great stuff.

It's too bad the Jabba scene isn't better done, because Han calling him "a wonderful human being" is a great little moment, even though Jabba really was a human when it was filmed.

Still working my way through the originals. With the prequels, I'd say TPM is more boring than bad, though it's not good, either. As discussed above, Clones is atrocious and a serious step down from Phantom. I actually enjoyed Sith despite some serious flaws. It blowsClones out of the water anyway, and there are certainly some fine moments (just using a practical effect when R2-D2 clangs around on the ship at the beginning was a welcome change from the CGI heavy R2-performance in Clones, although there is still plenty of that).

Watching the OT with my kids, too. Not even bothering with the PT.

I was holding out on watching the OT with them until I could find a way to watch non-special editions. And thank the lord, I stumbled on the despecialized editions, and the rest is history.

Yeah, I decided to watch that version, as my last watch was of the non-special editions. I do like the extra Han and the scene with Biggs. Not sure I can stomach Jedi Rocks though.

The "han dodging greedo's shot" and "han stepping on jabba's tail" shots are so bad - like basic Photoshop bad.

Well yeah, since Star Wars is similar to The Hidden Fortress, that has to mean that The Force Awakens will be similar to Rashomon.

Skipping the prequels on our watching before the premier. But I have recently discovered my fiancee has the VHS box set before all the changes. Time to hook up the VCR!

I'm sure after Monday's premier they will start. They might have to sign something saying they won't publish their review for a couple of days but I'm sure stuff will start leaking. I am staying offline Monday Night - Thursday.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

All of the sudden, I've been wondering exactly what Luke's role is in this.

Spoiler:
In my head, with the idea that he only shows up at the end, I kind of figured he would just pop up and say "I will train you to be a Jedi" or something. Basically, a teaser for the next one and not much more. But the more I think about it, the more it seems that it has to be something bigger than that. He really needs to play a role in this story and be something more than a glorified after-credits scene.

One thought I had is perhaps they (somehow) bring a grievously injured Han Solo to him to "save" with his Jedi powers and perhaps he will. It seems too predictable to have Han die, and it would also kind of suck to not have them together again.

The suspense is now officially killing me.

Putting aside most people's hatred towards the PT, I think the ST will be made where it won't reference much from the PT anyway.

It's almost like they are making the new saga: 4,5,6,7,8,9, as you only really need to watch the OT before seeing TFA. Now I could be wrong as I have stayed away from most spoilers, but everytime I see an interview with JJ he pretty much distances himself from the PT without overtly saying it sucks so the small base of fans that like it don't have a hissy-fit.
