Still sounds better than any of the prequels.

The problem with the prequels was basic - they weren't just bad Star Wars movies, they were terrible movies, period.

I read that Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig - who were both lead concept artists on the prequels - have been hired for Episode VII. I thought they'd go with a fresh perspective, but Coruscant will probably feature in the story if it involves the New Republic. Makes sense they'd want the same designers back.

There's a lot of really good concept art for the prequels that never saw the screen, if they let these guys really turn loose we could see some pretty neat stuff.

I think the question is what type of effects and landscapes will these use for the ST? Will they go old school and use real landscapes like they did for Tatooine, Hoth and Endor? Or will they go all CGI environments like Mustafar, Geonosis, Kamino, Coruscant?

I would love to see them go old school, but they will probably go with the new CGI environments because they will be afraid of turning off younger fans who are so used to the 'look' of summer movies these days.

Agree, most of the concept art is actually better than what was used. A lot of very cool designs, especially for characters.

Just remember on the dvd extras Lucas with is markers crossing out great looking designs and saying yes and no. And the artists just standing there watching him do it. And he gets credit for creating everything.

Are you talking about the storyboards for EpI? Wasn't he just marking which was going to be real and which was going to be CGI?

I don't remember him crossing out designs, but he did use an approval stamp for the ones he wanted in the films.

Yeah, and then he screwed up at one point, resting his head on the board.

Are you on fucking drugs? You're suggesting that there are people who think the director of any film is designing sets, creature design, wardrobe etc?

Lucas has ALWAYS given credit to his designers. FACT. Look at how much Ralph Mcquarrie merch there is. There's plenty to bitch about with him without making stuff up.

Probably a combination of both - same as the others really. (they've been scouting in Ireland and Iceland I think...I'd count on some landscape shots) Coruscant had it's share of model work, despite the heavy CG presence. Actually my fav depictions of planet locations is in "The Illustrated SW Universe" book from the 90's. The prequels definitely used some of those shots, hopefully we'll see more.

Both Star Trek movies had plenty of practical sets. Don't see why it would be any different here.

Can't wait - sounds like the best Star Wars movie since Empire

I am not sure which I hate more...what Star Wars has become or the work of JJ Abrams. Either way I can't wait to see this.

So is that all three scripts for the new trilogy, or just three copies of the same script for Ep VII?

Those aren't scripts. They are notes for the lighting department so they know where to put the lens flares.

120 pages that all say "EVERYWHERE"? Sounds about right.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams, S: The casts of Star Trek, Lost, Felicit

In a marginally related story, Star Wars: Episode VII may need a new director. Badass Digest is hearing rumors from multiple sources that Abrams is close to dropping out of the highly anticipated sequel. Abrams protested against shooting the movie in England (presumably because he didn’t want to be away from his family for so long), but was overruled by the studio. Although this decision wasn’t recent, the rumors of his leaving the project continue to percolate. Badass says these rumors will merit more serious consideration if there’s no announcement of any kind at Germany’s Star Wars celebration regarding Episode VII and Abrams isn’t present. It’s worth noting that if Abrams chooses to leave Episode VII, that doesn’t mean he’s automatically going back to Trek. He’s a highly in-demand director, and I’d expect he would have a wide variety of projects to choose from should he leave Star Wars.

I'm not against Abrams helming it but I also wouldn't be bothered if they found someone else.

This. I think he'd be great for it. Man, brings the action and adventure well. Though someone like Brad Bird would rock it for visual and story.

Talking about Bird, I'm still amazed with what he did on MI4. Really good control and pacing of the visual. Along with knowing his action.

I'd be ok if they waited for a 2017 release w/ Bird.(or another great director) But I don't see that happening...
