I was surprised by Hector turning into a servant for Parallax, and Sinestro becoming a Yellow Lantern so soon. I didn't know much of the GL mythology, so maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. The mocking exchange between Hal and his geek friend sums everything up pretty well...

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I disappoint you? I materialized a track out of pure energy, saving hundreds, and you're disappointed. I'm sorry about that."

Back in 2011 DC a reboot of their comics. Its called the New 52. In the New 52, Cyborg has replaced Martian Manhunter as a founding member of the Justice League. Basically all of the Wolfman/Perez era of Teen Titans has been retconned out of existence because none of those guys were ever Titans in the New 52.

DC has been bringing the New 52 into other mediums as well. The Man of Steel movie more closely resembles the armored and trunkless Superman from the New 52. DC is even more blatantly bringing the New 52 into their animation since they just released the animated movie Flashpoint Paradox which is based on the Flashpoint comic series that ended the old universe and led to the New 52 reboot. Another animated movie is in production called Justice League War which is based on the first Justice League storyarc in the New 52. Heck, even the Six Flags Superman rollercoaster artwork has been replaced with New 52 Superman artwork.

So yeah, if DC does go ahead with a DC Cinematic Universe, dollars to donuts it will be based on the New 52.

I don't have much experience with DC outside of movies and cartoons, but I never liked Cyborg. He seems like the laziest of characters. They might as well have just called him "Robot".

He was a pretty cool character back in the Wolfman/Perez era. Basically back in 1980, Marv Wolfman and George Perez were responsible for completely revamping the Teen Titans. They created all brand new characters, including Cyborg. They also had Dick Grayson leave his Robin role and become Nightwing. The Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans era was extremely awesome. It became one of the top selling comics and rivaled the X-Men in popularity.

My understanding is that Cyborg was included in the Justice League line-up as part of DC's reboot with a firm eye on an eventual movie. He was to be DC's answer to Marvel's Iron Man for film. Hollywood loves copying what is successful and the robotics in Transformers and Iron Man are proven box office winners.

No, its because he's black.

DC and Marvel copy each other all the time, so its not really surprising.

Superman's New 52 armored suit looks like it was taken from Iron Man as well. It would be a pretty big coincidence if it wasn't intentional. I'm kind of surprised they didn't use it in the Man of Steel movie. Maybe they're saving the idea for Batman in the Superman/Batman movie.

In November 2006, Ben Affleck stated that he would never reprise the role, having felt "by playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero... Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon."

It's a conflicting statement, obviously.

Yep, and by the time Supes and Bats comes out in theaters it will have been more than a decade (wasn't he in his late 20's) since he had done DD.

Technically, it already is more than a decade since Daredevil.

But it came out in February, so it's currently six months more than a decade.

And his best friend mocks him for it. So you were supposed to think the racetrack was lame. Same for when he attempts to use the gruff Batman voice to fool Carol Ferris and she instantly recognizes Hal. Those parts are intentionally hokey and there's nothing wrong with them.

The problem with the movie is that it stayed in first gear. Those cute stumbling moments were fine but the movie needed to stay in outer space for most of the runtime. And Parallax was too big a villain to start out a rookie Hal Jordan.

They are lame and it's a major component of how childish the film really is. Why use the mini-gun? Here's a guy with a fucking cosmic ring that he can generate fantastic shit with and he comes up with nonsense.

Okay, the film is very incongruent then.

You do realize that in the comics and cartoons Green Lanterns almost always use cartoonish shit to save the day, right? It's par for the course with those characters.

The movie needed to offset the silliness with higher stakes than some guy with daddy issues and Parallax downgraded to a cloud. That's why I feel the film should have been a feature length version of Green Lantern: First Flight. That animated flick had the stumbling moments, a smartass Hal Jordan, Green Lanterns actually being shown as deep space cops, and a coup by an already disillusioned Sinestro.

They also need to get someone like Paul Dini or Bruce Timm to either write it or collaborate with David Goyer.

They just need to ditch Goyer all together. Tired of his ass on all the superhero flicks. Let's get some new vision for DC.

After the combined success of the Dark Knight Trilogy and MOS, that won't happen anytime soon. So I think a collaboration is at least more likely.
