re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

You know, to be fair, you shouldn't prejudge these things. You never know, Affleck could turn out to be a good choice. I don't think so, I'm certainly not in favor of the decision, and I don't have high hopes, but maybe he'll surprise. Jackman did it in X-Men, Mortenson did it in LOTR, hell, Tom Cruise did it in Interview With the Vampire and Bruce Willis did it in Twelve Monkeys. Actors can really surprise you sometimes, and a lot of the fanboy outrage might be premature. Granted, insert your Boston accent joke here ("Mah boy Robin is wicked smaht, we're the protectors of Gatham Caty!"), and I remain highly skeptical, but who knows? Do try to keep an open mind. No, my problem is that Zack Snyder is still directing. He sunk Man of Steel, a film with a co-credit by Christopher Nolan, because Nolan's films are almost about words and ideas, Snyder is a glorified music video director who's movies rise and fall solely in visual terms who's never had an idea in his life. His one film that works fairly well is Watchmen, and even that is only because of its devotion to the extremely strong source material. Most of the social, political, & sexual stuff seemed way over his head.

If only they could bring in a great director. Oh wait - they did. To act.

No, it is not. It follows the same continuity from the first one, with much of the same cast and yet seems like it takes place in the same reality. Everything that I disliked about the Schumacher films started in Returns.
If the film was mostly about Catwoman then maybe it would have been the better film. But The Penguin storyline really brought the movie down, Keaton was really wasted this time around, and the people of Gotham seemed like moronic caricatures, so you don't a strong sense of why Batman risks hos life to protect them.

It is in my book. BR is by far my favorite from the original 4.

Definitely Returns is the best of the bunch, the only one with its own identity. In the first one Burton was trying to cater to the super hero fans a bit while in the later films, Schumacher was trying to cater to kids and toy companies.

Returns is Burton film, it totally feels like a Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice or Edward Scissors hands. A movie with a half twisted universe, even the penguin is your typical Burton tragic figure

Just now remembering that the studio had Josh Brolin in mind, which would have been cool, but considering that he was with Diane Lane and allegedly beat her when they were together, how awkward would that have been if he was Batman and Lane would still play Ma Kent?

Same here. I didn't care to see Batman when I was 3 but when Returns happened I wanted to see it bad. I'd never seen something like that. It is much more visual and bigger than the former film. We got some badass toys out of that one too.

Batman Returns is the best of the 1989-1997 series.

Doesn't Batman straight up kill a dude by handing him a bomb, smiling and punching him down a shaft in Returns?

Batman Returns is definitely the best of those 4 Bat Films.

Pretty much. Also, didn't Batman let a bunch of the Joker's men die when he blew up the Joker's HQ in the first one?

Where was the fan outrage then?

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

What the heck it's off topic but I'm going to give my thoughts on the first 4 Batman movies.

Batman: Good art direction and a strong cast make for an entertaining time at the movies. The movie holds up incredibly well today however even for a super hero film it has a lot of moments that make you go "Huh?"

Batman Returns: This movie really did feel like a Tim Burton movie whereas the first one felt like a movie that Tim Burton was hired to direct(which makes sense). However the movie has a lot of weirdness and suffers from almost being too dark. But I would say this is by far the best executed movie overall.

Batman Forever: People bash this for the colors, costumes and how over the top it could be, but I think the tone fits for the first movie to introduce Robin. Nicole Kidman looks hot as a blonde. Other than that, this movie misfires a lot. It almost seems like more of a live action cartoon than anything else.

Batman and Robin: Well, uh, some of the origins were close to the comic book. George Clooney did show some potential in the role. I got nothing.

So I'd put them in order:
1. Batman Returns
2.Batman
3. Batman Forever
4. Batman and Robin

I don't understand all the love for BATMAN RETURNS. The origin of the Penguin was ridiculous, and the scene where all these penguins are armed with rockets (Who supplied them? Who put them on?) made me think I was watching the old TV series.

The Catwoman's origin was even worse. She gets pushed out of a window and is then revived by alley cats? Then she gets nine lives as a result? What the hell?!?!?!?

The really bad thing is that when DC did their comic book reboot back in 2011, they decided to make that her canon comic book origin too.

Penguins are sweet and cute and make me smile. The use of penguins for nefarious evil therefore makes me sad.

I think they used it all up on Keaton (before seeing it) and Joker killing Wayne's parents.

yeah, it's bizarro world in here. Batman '89 is the only one of the original 4 worth a shit. They just got progressively worse. BR is just as campy as BF and B&R, people just pretend otherwise since it has Burton's name attached.

Didn't Batman flambee a guy when he rotated the Batmobile in Batman Returns? How do you like your ribs?

That's Burton for you. Take something cute and make it dark and sad.

Anyways I seen in interviews that Burton said he was done after the first Batman but then the studio told him that they wanted him back and that he would be given complete creative control so he got excited at the idea of making his own version of Batman without having to fit any criteria so he took the liberties that he did and it shows in the final product

Batman Returns is the best film of the four Burton/Schumacher movies, but Batman Forever is the best Batman movie of the four (even though Tommy Lee Jones manages to make Jim Carrey look subtle).

Batman '89 has dated terribly and the best thing about it is the Prince soundtrack.

Oh it was there. People complained about Batman blowing up the building, and over Batman letting the Joker die. Though that still caused debate from people claiming that "Batman didn't intentionally let Joker die."
