The movie doesn’t have a director yet but does have a script by Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy, and Meg LeFauve, who co-wrote Pixar's Inside Out.

Marvel has been on the hunt for a female filmmaker to helm this most female-centric of their properties, with names like Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) surfacing as contenders, according to sources.

Also, regarding Larson... she just got done filming Kong with Hiddleston and Sam Jackson. I wonder if that helped either convince Marvel or her to come aboard.

She's been my choice for while now. After Room, I figured it would be a race between Marvel and DC to lock her into something.

She doesn't scream superhero to me but it looks like the intended audience for this movie is not my demo.

I am so glad I don't care one bit about this Marvel character. I still think DC capitulated too easily over this trademark.

I don't think DC capitulated. They sued Fawcett and Fawcett stopped publishing the character in the early 50s. Marvel started publishing their CM in the late 60s. DC didn't start licensing the Marvel family until the 70s, and didn't fully own the character until the 90s.

Did RDJr. scream superhero either? Or a lot of the other castings? Sure... maybe Evans cuz he was the Human Torch... but.. she's a solid actor. And you want that for someone like Carol Danvers. She doesn't look it based on what we have seen her... but it's acting. The best kinds of actors are chameleons. If she is Danvers. Great. She's got great skills.

Yeah, after the lawsuit and Fawcett stopped publishing CM, the name was pretty much up for grabs. Schlock magazine publisher Myron Fass published a comic in 1966 featuring a truly bizarre superhero called Captain Marvel (a robot who could separate his body into segments by saying the command "Split!") which barely lasted a year. Then in 1967, Marvel came up with their own Captain Marvel, who was well established by the time DC decided to bring back the original Captain Marvel, so that they had to name their comic something else, "Shazam!".
