So is Ep. 9 still being planned as the final of the episode movies? Or will they plant the seeds for another trilogy and come back to it in about 10-15 years down the line? Only problem may be if C-3PO is still included, Anthony Daniels may be too old to be in the suit and/or do the voice.

I would bet that episode IX ends in a way that can set up a new trilogy, that still has direct ties to the previous Episode chronology / Skywalker lineage.

After this year's SDCC, i think it's time to resurrect the SW subforum.

Whenever I see this thread, it makes me think we're discussing a Dune related movie. Anyone else?

Yes, this. There is no way Disney waits another 10-15 years before they get another trilogy or core set of movies into theaters. They're going to Star Wars us to death.

Cool, my post is now a thread.
I think CT did a great job with JW, adding new elements and poking fun at big budget spectacles while also delivering on the nostalgia factor these storied franchises require.

There is zero chance that Kevin Smith will be given a Star Wars movie to direct. I'm a fan of his podcasts, but his movies are still pretty amateurish. His bigger budget efforts have all been bombs. Disney would be crazy to trust him with a $100M+ franchise movie. It's ridiculous to even bring his name up.
I'm more concerned with who is writing the story and screenplay than with who is directing. I'd love to see a Whedon SW movie--either written by or written and directed by.

The Colin T rumor sounds plausible, there was some nice sequences in JW but overall I didn't get a sense of strong direction.. but I guess if you can manage a big production like that, followed by immense financial success - you're in. He'll get a big thumbs up from Disney higher ups I'm sure.
I'm assuming we'll get two trilogies with this cast (the OT cast participating in the first, force ghost Luke in the second)... with probably a 3-5yr window in between. Anthology films will keep us busy in-between.

Abrams confirms to Entertainment Weekly that he won't be back to direct:
“No, I’m not going to direct Episode IX, as much as I am deeply envious of anyone who gets to work with this group of people on the future movies,” he says.

Maybe he's just interested in doing other stuff too? A lot of directors are like that.

I thought the original plan was to have a Star Wars movie every other year, and an anthology film in the year between.

Yep. They're going to MCU this bitch. The MCU started with one movie per year, then went to two per year, and is soon going to three per year. I have a feeling Star Wars may follow a similar pattern.
