Much better than replacing mid production obviously. I'd guess the release date won't hold up. I didn't really have an opinion about the guy, but I am trusting Kathleen Kennedy's instincts ... so far.

The writing was on the wall for that.

I can't say this bothers me. I wasn't a huge fan of him for this film to begin with and feel like the film everyone knows him for (Jurassic World obviously) is overrated.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019, D: Trevorrow)
I'm happy with this decision as Trevorrow is just another mediocre director from his generation that cares more about the big action scenes of a blockbuster movie then the characters or story.
If TLJ is good or even great, just stick with Rian Johnson. It's the same as if Lucas would have stuck with Kirshner to direct ROTJ.

I love The Force Awakens and Rogue One so I trust Kennedy over everyone else when it comes to making these decisions.

Ouch, that Book of Henry debacle really ended up fucking him over. He should have just stuck to directing Jurassic World 2.
Damn, Kathleen Kennedy is ruthless. She comes off so friendly in interviews too. What's Spielberg's schedule looking like? They're besties, and Lucas and Kazan would definitely approve getting him on board. Finishing off the trilogy with Spielberg would be a nice touch.

Sources indicated to Variety that the split stemmed from differences on the script between Trevorrow and studio executives. The film was expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2019, with production expected to start in early 2018.
Disney brought on “Wonder” screenwriter Jack Thorne a month ago to do a polish on the latest draft of “Star Wars: Episode IX.” Trevorrow and writing partner Derek Connolly had written the most recent draft of the script at that point.

I could see Ron Howard getting this if they like what he's done on the Han Solo movie. Might delay it a bit though depending on Han Solo post production.
Spielberg will be busy with Indy 5, so don't get your hopes up for him.

It is funny how the same company can vary so wildly with their philosophy regarding projects. Disney is letting directors do their things with Marvel (Gunn, Waititi) and those seem like to be home runs. With Stars Wars that shit is locked down, where it is their vision or the highway.

With Twin Peaks being done, David Lynch should be available. He was supposed to direct the last episode of the original trilogy after all.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Mocks How Lucasfilm Has Handled ‘Star Wars’
http://www.thewrap.com/thor-ragnarok...led-star-wars/
As “Star Wars” fans speculate about who will replace Colin Trevorrow as director of “Episode IX,” “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi has decisively taken himself out of the running with some beautiful, bridge-burning tweets.
Responding to a follower who suggested him as a possible replacement for Trevorrow on the still-untitled ninth “Star Wars” episode, Waititi flat out said no, mocking the unusually high degree of public drama surrounding the Disney-owned era of “Star Wars” in the process.
“Lolz. I like to complete my films,” he wrote.
In a follow-up tweet, Waititi continued: “I’d be fired within a week.”
