What a joke. Netflix will be streaming the Oscars in a few years.

Local news just reported Warren Beatty announced the wrong winner. It's funny because I thought the same thing until I played the DVR back and realized it was Faye Dunaway.

It could have been worse. They could have had John Travolta announce the winner as "Hidden Fences."

I believe the point they were trying to make that the huge mistake wasn't scripted as some people accused it to be.
Anyways, the La La Land crew handled it well and they got some major awards throughout the entire awards season. They shouldn't be that disappointed. Like Kimmel said, "It's just an awards show."

Does this mean that an accounting firm other than Price Waterhouse will be handling the Academy Awards from now on?

I wonder if it had been the other way around and "Moonlight" had won by mistake and the producers had starting giving their speeches and saying "This is a great night for diversity and a proud moment for African Americans, etc," -- I wonder if the Academy would have just said, "Aw, f' it, let them win."

The only thing that would have made this better is if they had initially announced Hacksaw Ridge as Best Picture. Just imagine Mel Gibson having to hand the Oscar to the Moonlight crew.

So I rewatched the ending again and right after Faye Dunaway announces the winner as "La La Land," you can see an ever brief expression on Warren's face like "WTF did you just do?"
Then when it cuts to the "La La Land" folks, you can hear the audio of Warren saying, "It says 'to Emma stone'" and Faye Dunaway going, "What?"

These were among the names left out of the Memoriam montage. Granted, most of them were better known for TV roles or other fields (sports, music) but they did substantial film work at some point in their careers:
William Schallert
Alan Young
Burt Kwouk
David Bowie
Doris Roberts
Vanity
Abe Vigoda
Alan Rickman
George Martin
Richard Libertini
Pat Harrington
Dan Haggerty
Wayne Rogers
Muhammad Ali
Noel Neill
Bud Spencer
Steven Hill
Hugh O’Brian
Robert Vaughn
Florence Henderson
Fritz Weaver
Michele Morgan

If the Academy Awards had one iota of common sense, next year they would announce that Jimmy Fallon is going to host the 2018 Oscars. They would book a full press tour with him, with appearences on all the daytime talk shows. Have him film tv spots to air during the Superbowl and other commericials, radio ads and viral marketting campaigns promoting the Academy Awards. Then , when the day comes and the telecast begins, Jimmy comes out and starts a big song and dance number, only to be cut off after 45 seconds, while the Oscar production staff scramble on stage and eventually announce that there has been a mistake, and that Stephen Colbert is actually the host of the show. And then, Stephen Colbert would actually host the show and Jimmy Fallon would go home

And I thought Beatty and Kimmel mocking the mistake while everyone was up there was in poor taste. Beatty was sort of laughing and Kimmel is talking about Steve Harvey, as it made it appear they were all joking and it was a hoax.

At the very least we can all agree Warren Beatty probably never gets an erection again.

Can you imagine if they had given Beatty the envelope for Best Actor and Faye Dunaway had read the winner as "Manchester By the Sea."
Then as Matt Damon was giving his acceptance speech, Kimmel would have interrupted him, "Matt, I'm sorry but there's been a mistake. You didn't win."
And Damon would have been like, "Yeah, right, Jimmy. Right."
And the whole auditorium would have burst out laughing thinking it was all a joke.
It would have probably taken Kimmel at least ten minutes to convince everybody that it was an actual mistake and not a prank.
