I still say Walton Goggins for the Joker!
I mix of his characters from Vice Principals and American Ultra would make a great take on the Joker, IMO.
And for those who might say he's too old for an origin story, maybe, but he's only a few years older than DiCaprio.

This movie really makes me nervous for the future of the DCEU.
I see two possibilities:
1. This film is a huge success. Its success will inspire WB to break up the DCEU and start handing their properties out to different directors to do with whatever they want.
2. This film is a flop. WB will take its failure out on the DCEU and scale it back or scuttle the ship altogether.

Honestly I wish they'd just give up on the DCEU. I know there are some fanboys out there convinced that DC is trying to build a film version of its Multiverse but let's be real these films aren't that clever. I just think the characters would be better served in solo outings rather than a half-assed extended universe.

You look at the MCU, and see that they've had that planned out for years and they've (mostly) stuck with that plan.
Where, with WB, they make one Superman film, wait to see what the reaction is, then put out the second movie three years later. Then the next movie is a quickie Suicide Squad flick meant to push the same buttons Guardians of the Galaxy did. They managed a massive hit with Wonder Woman, have Justice League waiting in the wings, but seemingly no firm plans after that... looks like Aquaman is in production, and others like Flashpoint, Batgirl, Captain Marvel and Nightwing are talked about, but don't seem to be fast-tracked. Even then, it seems like a scattershot slate. How the fuck can they think about Nightwing and Batgirl when they can't even get a Batman movie with Affleck off of tne ground? And I think it's way too early to do Flashpoint when the DCEU is barely established. That should be the third Flash movie, not the first.

They announced a slate of movies, which isn't the same as having an actual plan. They announced two Justice League movies and solo movies for all of the Justice Leaguers, which is the most generic thing that they could have announced. And yes, the second JL movie and some of the solo movies are now seemingly off the slate.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_E...Upcoming_films
Here are the "forthcoming" DCEU films:
Aquaman (2018)
Shazam (2019)
Wonder Woman 2 (2019)
Cyborg (2020)
Green Lantern Corps (2020)
Batgirl
The Batman
Flash: Flashpoint
Gotham City Sirens
Justice League 2
Justice League Dark
Nightwing
Suicide Squad 2
Black Adam
Deadshot
Harley Quinn and The Joker
Lobo
Man of Steel 2
They are seemingly down to one DCEU film next year, with two more planned for the two years after that. At two movies per year, that's enough to get to 2027 providing they don't add any more into the mix AND that they actually get made. A Flash movie was slated for 2018 along with Aquaman, but it got pushed off of the schedule when they lost the director.
At any rate, it doesn't seem like they have any kind of long-term plan or over-arcing storyline in effect. They're just seeing what audiences respond to and adding movies onto the vaporware slate.
Whereas Marvel has had a plan in place for the past seven or so years, and they have mostly stuck with it. The only changes are that they pulled Inhumans and some hiccups with Wright and Ant-Man.

I'm gonna go with my stock answer for who should play the Joker.
He's got right kind of mischievous face for it, he can pull off interesting voices and he has serious acting chops. Plus it would be really fun for DC lore to have the same guy play Batman AND The Joker 30 years apart.
The only downside is he isn't getting any younger.

I think mrhan got it right with Gustaf Skarsgård. He'd do way better than anyone else mentioned, and he could disappear into the character and not make it look like he's acting it.
But who are we kidding, this is going to be another dismal WB/DC offering.

Though I thought I was pushing the age envelope when I suggested a 46 year old Goggins. I'm not sure a 66 year old Keaton would fly in an origin story.

It won't happen because it'll go through several director's and scripts, and they'll want to cram in Batman and the idiotic Suicide Squad to it. Having a lessor known actor will get everyone past the bitching on who's playing him.
Eh, nevermind. Everyone will bitch about it whoever is cast.

Keaton would be an interesting choice and was a great villain as The Vulture but I think the fact that he's already played Batman would make him playing The Joker too odd. Granted it would be far removed from the Burton films given how long ago those films were made but still.

It won't happen, because they will need to use someone that is familiar. Like it or not, these DC films have made a shitload, as did Suicide Squad -- they won't cast a an unfamiliar or obscure actor to fill in for one of the most iconic villains of all time.
