Pregnancies can and will always happen - even in the post-apocalyptic future. There is no way around it. It's biological - people will fuck, consequences be damned.

And there has to be some semblance of hope for the future. Makes perfect sense to get pregnant. Especially since they seemed to have a plan in place to soundproof the room. It just didn't work.

Saw it tonight. One of the better films of 2018 so far. Quite enjoyed it, especially that it didn't answer every possible question about the creatures. There were only a couple things I'd call unintentionally funny, but overall it was super tense. One of those flicks that's a ton of fun to watch and one I'd highly recommend seeing on the big screen, but may lose some appeal after two or more viewings.

Not a criticism of the movie, just the characters adding another complication to an impossible situation. This isn’t your Mad Max post-apocalyptic world. Or even The Walking Dead apocalypse. You have to be really, really horny to want to fuck in this movie. My hat off to them.

Edit: on second thought, the 69 position would work with keeping your mouth “closed.”

And you could get a quick shag by the river, so I don't see the problem. They have needs.

In order for it to have taken place by the river, they would have had to either bring the kids (which the movie makes it clear they had never done before) or leave them home alone (which seems pretty unlikely).

These two people, who already saw their youngest slaughtered by the creatures, who are in constant fear of making even the slightest sound, and still have two kids to raise, just couldn't not fuck? Their lives literally depend on being as quiet as possible, yet having a 'shag' (jesus christ, we're still using this word?, with all the natural consequences that could come with it, took priority?

Get right out of here with that dumb shit.

Cool premise for a movie and actually pretty well executed, aside from the main characters being real fuckin dumb.

Wait for what? Biology? As I said before, nuke the entire planet, fill it with marauders, etc., folks will still fuck and have kids in those conditions. You can blah, blah, blah it all you want, but that's exactly what would have happened anyway. I doubt they're gonna be going to the doctor's office for a birth control prescription let alone abstain. Yes, even in a world filled with monsters.

Re: A Quiet Place (Krasinski, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I liked this but I didn’t love it. First of all I went in blind and knew nothing about it so I didn’t expect the majority of the film to literally be no dialogue. That didn’t bother me so much but it surprised me I guess. Also I didn’t know it was a monster film. The monster was kinda cool but reminded me a lot of the Demogorgon. Almost too much so.

The film looks good and is well made but things bothered me. Where did this creature come from and is the majority of the population dead? It looked like the town was basically abandoned other than the main family and the old guy and his dead wife. I thought some more backstory would have helped.

Also it has some dumb aspects. The baby for one. I mean I get it sex is natural but that seems pretty irresponsible as obviously a baby is going to make noise and knows no better. Just seemed stupid to their cause of surviving and put them all at further risk. Also the part with the nail on the stairs and the mom character bringing up the bag of laundry. I get that she was pregnant and not having the easiest of times but couldn’t she have stopped and found out why the bag got hung up? Just seemed a little weird to me as they seemed to try hard to be cautious about everything that she wouldn’t bother to check what happened.

A lot of my issues are nitpicky but they were things that bothered me. I seem to find that most modern mainstream horror films that are acclaimed I end up not loving 90% of the time. It’s fine but overhyped in my opinion. I’d give it like a 7 out of 10 or so. It’s worth a watch but I don’t see it having much repeat value.

When they are up on the silo, you can see lights on at other farms/properties in the distance.

The budget wasn't high enough to digitally remove neighbors' lights from surrounding communities at the location where they filmed. It's like those post-apocalypse movies like THE OMEGA MAN where you see traffic in the distance, despite civilization having died out.

I thought they were fires similar to the one this family would light. Kinda like a signal to other survivors.

That's how I took it, -though I thought it might come back as a story point.

Yeah, I didn't know if the fire was part of this family's compound, like a series of light houses or beacons, or if they were just neighbors. Wish they'd have revisited that.

I actually think that's one of the credits to this film. The world seemed lived in, not an easy thing to pull off.

One thing that bother me is how
Spoiler:
they know the total creatures in the area. One of the notes said there were three of them.

It may not be that they know, -it could be just a guess based on what they've observed. Most of their posted info is observations and guesses.

It's probably the number they've seen together at the same time. Or were obviously identifiable. They kind of looked the same to me.

Though the little girl was almost certainly being hunted down by that one particular creature for giving him a feedback migraine.

Same here. Also couldn’t really tell if the lights were in the distance or just lights on their property. They had the strings of those bulb lights and it kinda seemed like it could be just more of those or something.

I can see them still having sex but I would think they’d have been extra careful. That bothered me a lot as it was such an obvious thing they could have avoided to protect not just themselves but their two young kids and the newborn. It seemed incredibly irresponsible that in a world where you’re being hunted by creatures who find you from the smallest of noises that you’d want a newborn baby who’s bound to cry and make noise. It’s not like she was pregnant before the incidents started happening.
