Same here. Also couldn’t really tell if the lights were in the distance or just lights on their property. They had the strings of those bulb lights and it kinda seemed like it could be just more of those or something.
I can see them still having sex but I would think they’d have been extra careful. That bothered me a lot as it was such an obvious thing they could have avoided to protect not just themselves but their two young kids and the newborn. It seemed incredibly irresponsible that in a world where you’re being hunted by creatures who find you from the smallest of noises that you’d want a newborn baby who’s bound to cry and make noise. It’s not like she was pregnant before the incidents started happening.

The lights thing was cool, but I wish they'd explained them better within the movie itself.
And the more I think about it, the way the pregnancy was handled was almost inexcusably stupid.
If they're going to go with this angle, making her already pregnant from the start just makes so much more sense.
There's a title card early in the movie that says 86 days (or something like that), and I'm assuming that means this is taking place that many days after the aliens showed up. If that's true, then why not just have her be pregnant at the start of the movie? There's another title card later on that says something like 300 days - this is right after the son is killed - and they're on their farm and she's pregnant. Well, how about we shave that number down by half, and we can still have our pregnant character without having to explain why they decided now was the right time to have a baby.
And I get the having another kid out of grief argument, but considering the wildly extreme circumstances they're already in, that still seems like a bridge too far.
Again, cool movie and I liked a lot about it, but I really don't see any way to justify this very specific aspect other than to accept it's just something they added for the sake of tension. But it just makes absolutely zero sense to me.

I really liked the movie, but there are 2 parts of the premise that keep standing out to me that keep me from loving it.
First, when they killed the creature at the end, it was not currently disabled by the sound, yet a single shotgun blast to the face killed it. If they are that easily killed, how would they have survived against the military? Even the Abbott family could have lured them into the basement one at a time, stood quietly in a corner with a loaded gun at the ready, and as soon as the creature turned in their direction, boom.
Second, given the fact that their only means of sensing/hunting prey is their extremely sensitive hearing, it should not have taken any competent scientist that much time to deduce that they might be sensitive to some frequencies or volume levels.
In short, I can't see a realistic scenario where the creatures survive longer than a month or two.

Re the shotgun killing it.
I think that the skin was essentially a super strong armor and when the high audio frequency screwed around with it the armor opened and revealed section that was vulnerable to the gun.

The frequency forced their body armor open, like that hair raising effect nails on a chalkboard board has.
I agree about scientists figuring it out, but I let that slide.

Yeah, it's exactly what I posted in the post right before yours. I thought you might not have seen it for some reason.

Ah, cell phone posting while waiting on food. For some reason it occasionally skips the last comment or two. That weird back load thing. Regardless yeah agree with your take.

Thats a really slow to update phone. I posted nearly 2 hours before you. lol.
BUt yeah that's exactly what I think.
As for why a scientist didn't figure it out is a good question.

I am going to be a hypocrite for a moment ...
I want to make sure I find you guys when the Apocalypse happens. Whether it is aliens, zombies, inter-dimensional beings, the Rapture, a planet-killing asteroid, or the Cubs winning the World Series ... you guys have your shit together and so planned out that you know just how you will act and how other humans should act in those circumstances.
If they were deliberately trying to NOT get pregnant and made it a plot point, you all would be bitching "they need to think of humanity and repopulating the planet!"

Having said that, things like our military being wiped away and not being able to find a weakness seems like a flaw in the story. I’m got with my intial 4 out of 5 star rating.

Just saw it this afternoon. Made me a compelete nervous wreck. I came home needing a beer badly. Thought it was an exceptionally well made thriller, though one I could go a long time before experiencing again.
They came from outer space.
They were grown in a government lab.
They emerged from a volcano crater.
They used to be tiny insects but evolved after being exposed to nuclear waste.
It doesn't matter. Glad this film had the balls to drop viewers in in media res and allow their minds to fill in the missing pieces. The WHY isn't important; it's how you deal with it. This is why so much horror lacks mystery these days: audiences need to know something about everything.
There is an article on the workbench that is about a massive meteor hitting Mexico and causing a nuclear-bomb sized explosion (or something like that). I'm pretty sure you are supposed to infer that's how the invasion happened.
(My son points out that it's weird that Aliens can be so powerful and successful navigating space with only one sense -- and one that doesn't even work in space. He's not wrong).
I don't know how nice people who live upstate New York are, but if that abandoned pharmacy is any indication, they're a very considerate bunch. Treating a pharmacy like a lending library in a resort -- Let's just take what we need today and leave the rest for other travelers. If I'm in a Demogorgon apocalypse, I'm looting like my life depends upon it. I'm taking everything I and my semi-useless kids can hold, and then some more. Every last fucking pill - especially the oral contraceptives. Probably making off with all three Space Shuttle toys as well, you know, just in case.

I saw it this afternoon, and frankly, I understand completely. I was surprised when I caught myself signing at the daughter to turn on her cochlear implant.

I guess I need to see it again to confirm that.
Either way, I can’t believe that there were no scientists, anywhere in the world, able to figure out that weakness and exploit it.

It will probably be revealed in the sequel that the military figured out a long time ago how to defeat the creatures, but the governments around the world suppressed that information because they saw the aliens as an ideal way to help weed out the homeless and lower classes from society (kinda like "The Purge") while the wealthy and powerful were safe in their soundproof compounds.

Re: A Quiet Place (Krasinski, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
My criticism had nothing to do with whether the father knew the hearing aid would harm the creatures or not, but the fact that he was able to tinker with it and even got it to function to a point where it could (inadvertently) repel the creatures, showed that he was no average Joe. Not to mention his whole set-up in the basement, the surveillance cameras and the fact that he was also able to put up a massive red light warning system and implement a huge fireworks set-up.
So, after all that time, he didn't think of having something that he and his family members could carry with them at all times when outside that could distract the creatures in case of an emergency? In case their bare feet stepped on something sharp and they let out a scream? Maybe have a couple of firecrackers taped to a couple of batteries. Or maybe a toy spaceship that you could turn on and then throw off into the distance. Seems illogical that the father would have never thought to equip himself with some item that can emit sound that he could use to draw the creatures away from him in case of an emergency.

I tried to enjoy it but logic takes a backseat. It was just an average horror movie and just ok. The girlfriend like it more than I did. I didn't mind that that they didn't explain everything.

If anyone watched the What The Flick review on YouTube, one of the reviewers pointed out that you get caught up in the movie while you watch it but, when going home, you start to question some parts of the movie.

Isn't that most movies like this? I mean, at least they didn't get defeated by doors.

I liked the movie but did have a few problems with it. They put sand down to muffle their footsteps. Sand wouldn't just stay there without a boarder holding it in place. They would have to constantly reapply the sand. It would have been better to insulate their feet.
The way the monsters were always close enough to kill them was odd. Sure they are fast but they can't be in multiple places at once. If there were a bunch of them all over the place why didn't they see any.
The monsters have super armor but the shotgun was able to blow it's head off. I get it open it's mouth but the super armor should have held the head together.
The monsters were strong but not super strong. They attacked the truck but didn't destroy it. How did these things stop tanks if they couldn't easily get through a truck.
Still a good movie with my nitpicks. I just couldn't buy the monster.

Really liked the movie. Thought about the nitpicks afterward but pleasantly surprised.
Good to know that none of the world’s survivors snore.
