Re: Ivan Reitman May Just Remake Ghostbusters

Why the focus on young "comedian" type actors? The original Ghostbusters look closer to 40 than 30. They were gruff, working men, who'd been toiling in this paranormal field for years.

How about a Ghostbusting squad made of Steve Bucsemi, Jon Turtturo, Don Cheadle and Philip Seymour Hoffman?

Re: Ivan Reitman May Just Remake Ghostbusters

I think I've seen enough "serious" reboots. A comedic reboot sounds better.

To be honest, I don't know if I really care (or care for) a new Ghostbuster movie. I just don't really care one way or the other.

I agree. In spite of all the special effects and set pieces, Ghostbusters is essentially a comedy. A serious tone would be a betrayal to the property.

I hope no one is thinking I proposed a "serious" Ghostbuster movie by suggesting casting actors instead of comics.

Everyone I listed has been hysterically funny in various projects over the years. Performers of this level of craft is exactly what a Ghostbusters movie needs; the humor coming from developed, interesting characters instead of "jokes"

No wait, now I've got it! Here's how to do the Ghostbuster's remake! Get Sasha Baron Cohen to do it as a Borat/hidden camera kind of movie.

He'll start by running ads on TV, disguising the Jackass guys as paranormal investigators. Then target various red necks and celebrities, using sensitive nerve gases to induce hallucinations. They'll think they're seeing ghosts and then call these bozos, who'll conveniently show up to deal with the problem.

Re: Ivan Reitman May Just Remake Ghostbusters

Even though the original cast is mostly comedians, I wouldn't say they were performing it as a comedy. The concept and situations are funny, playing it relativly straight is what made it work. I don't want them to go out and cast young comedians, can you imagine how horrible that Ben Stiller, Chris Farley, Chris Rock idea would've been? I say cast semi-serious actors that can do comedy, like RDJ.

Ghostbusters was already remade years ago better than any major Hollywood production ever could.

Aykroyd was 32, Murray was 34, Ramis was 40, and if you've seen the widescreen version of the film, Hudson was 39.

I think Buscemi and Turturro are just too old.

I like it, but the focus on the younger actors is because of the hope that the older cast would have a cameo. It's easier to see Bill Murray as the father of Channing Tatum than it is Steve Bucsemi (or Don Cheadle)

I don't think it would ever happen but I actually would be really interested in seeing a Ghostubsters movie made with a cast like that. I don't really know that I want a squad of Ghostbusters played by today's modern young comedians.

Re: Ivan Reitman May Just Remake Ghostbusters

A modern retelling of Ghostbusters would be like Tim Burton's Dark Shadows--a complete farce. (SEE JONAH HILL AND BEN STILLER GET COVERED IN ECTOPLASM AND THINGS EXPLODING! HURR! HURR!)

One of the things that made the classic film what it was, was an undercurrent of seriousness that played a brilliant counterpoint to the comedy. One of the most underrated scenes in GB is where Ray and Winston are waxing philosophic about the end of the world. It's a serious scene, but it's so wonderfully organic to the characters and story, the film would have been much poorer without it.

I've always thought Steve Carell would make a great Ghostbuster...he's the kind of comedian you want for this - someone who's funny, but is also a really good actor.

I agree completely with this post. I love that scene even though it's barely ever discussed. I also like a similar moment in the sequel when they're talking about Viggo's past, his execution, and what he said before he died. It's a comedy but most of the actors play it straight with Venkman being the funny guy. It's the creepy moments contrasted with the humor that really make it special.

What I mean was that a Ghostbusters remake would be like The Watch.

Whatever quibbles one may have with 80s movies, most of the mainstream *hit* comedies were damned near pitch perfect in tone. And they were smart.

'Ghostbusters 3' Returns from the Grave; Will Start Production Next Summer
You didn't think this would all just go away, did you? Based on how popular the Ghostbusters 3 news has been over the past couple of years, it really was a no-brainer for the studio to figure out a way to make this happen -- and figure out a way they have. According to Deadline, production is set to begin on Ghostbusters 3 this summer (fingers and toes crossed!), with plans to finally bring the sequel to theaters in 2014 to coincide with the original film's 30th anniversary.

Ivan Reitman will direct, and as of this moment Bill Murray won't be in it. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis will return, and we assume Ernie Hudson will be there too, as well as Sigourney Weaver. Heck, if they can also find some wiggle room for Annie Potts, William Atherton and a surprise return by Rick Moranis, we would welcome them with open arms, hearts and minds (we miss you Rick!).

As of now, though, from what we've been told this sequel will focus on passing the torch to a younger generation of Ghostbusters, so expect a mix of the original stars and new, younger blood. Some names that have been rumored previously include Bill Hader, John Hodgman, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone and more. Etan Cohen recently rewrote the script, and if things stay as is we expect to begin hearing casting news within the next couple of months.
