Hard to compare the two. Bad Boys 4 Life was released in January, which is normally considered a dead zone for movies, and was made for about $90M and grossed $400M plus worldwide making it very profitable. It was a rare hit for January. And subjectivity aside, it got pretty decent reviews.

Top Gun was made for twice the budget and was a highly anticipated summer blockbuster with more promotion and marketing in it and also having one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Way more people were anticipating Top Gun, especially since it was postponed twice because of the pandemic. And of course it got overwhelmingly positive reviews.

It’s funny because I knew that before I made my post. But even after watching Bad Boys For Life, and having several years pass since its release, I STILL thought Joe Carnahan directed the third movie. I think he was attached to direct at one point and my brain just accepted it as fact for the last few years.

I didn’t realize the Batgirl dudes directed the last Bad Boys movie until I saw this thread bump earlier today.

I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, but my recollection is that Bad Boys 3 definitely didn't suck. I remember it being a pretty fun time at the movies.

It was good. Fond memories of watching Bad Boys when I was a kid.

I love Michael Bay movies, so I would have preferred his exact style/crew. Nobody does it quite like them.

Which begs the question: Vanessa Hudgens was in another Bad Boys movie?!

If you count the last one, then yes?

I'm down for that. The team was good in the last one.

Might as well just include Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.

While we are wishing, bring back the original score for nostalgic sake. It’s loved and highly collectible by people who love a good score. Surprised the filmmakers didn’t pick up on this for two sequels.

Eric Dane will join Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for a fourth film in Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys franchise.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are returning to direct from a script by Chris Bremner, which sees the previous cast from Bad Boys: For Life, including Paola Núnez, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig, returning for the fourth installment.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith through his Westbrook banner, and Doug Belgrad are back producing; with Martin Lawrence, James Lassiter, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone serving as executive producers. Plot is being kept under wraps. Dane is expected to play villain in pic.

Martin Lawrence's wife, who was played by Theresa Randle, was recast

Tasha Smith will join Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the latest installment of Sony Pictures’ “Bad Boys” franchise.

In “Bad Boys 4,” Smith will play Theresa, Marcus Burnett’s (Lawrence) loving and devoted wife, a role previously inhabited by Theresa Randle in the first three “Bad Boys” films. Plot details for “Bad Boys 4” have been kept under wraps.

Smith is best known for her roles as Carol in the drama series “Empire,” Ronnie Boyce in HBO’s Emmy-winning series “The Corner” and Angela in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” She has also directed episodes of “Our Kind of People,” “Mayor of Kingstown” and “Bel-Air.”

Okay, given that I recently watched John Wick 4 as my only John Wick movie and I'll work my way backwards, and I haven't seen any Bad Boys movies, even though I said I'd start with 3 and then I'd work my way backward, I hereby commit to starting with Bad Boys 4 and working my way backwards!

Interesting as I read this was one of the films interrupted by the strike. Guess not!

Apparently Michael Bay didn't want to reuse any of the old score on part 2, which led to him and the composer parting ways. I think there was a snippet of the original theme using during the title card scene in part 3 but that was about it.

That actually looks pretty good! I wasn’t a huge fan of the last one but this looks like it’s got a little more humor and is going to go back to the roots of the series a little bit.

Them trying to sing the Reba song made me laugh.

Re: Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024, D: Arbi / Fallah)

I'll keep watching. Bad Boys was always ripe for being a longer-term franchise. In the past one, they increase the scope, heavily serialize it, and had a mid credits scene, like they're modeling after the Fast and Furious movies.

Bad Boys was almost 30 years ago. It had so much ridiculous cop logic and story full of coincidence. It was shot and edited so well. And Bay really knows how to make it feel serious. It's pretty-much a one-of-a-kind movie. Even Bad Boys 2 was not much like it.

Re: Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024, D: Arbi / Fallah)

I expected the last one to be terrible, but overall it was pretty decent. I didn't like the "twist" with Mike's son, but that's about it. My biggest fear was that they were making a team movie with all those younger cops, but the focus remained on the bad boys, so I was fine with it.

The new trailer looks even better. So I'm in.

Speaking as someone who absolutely hated Bad Boys For Life and swore he'd never watch another movie by the same directors, this looks like a lot of fun and I definitely want to watch it. If it turns out to be shit, hats off to whomever cut that trailer.
