AMC Theatres will reopen July 15th.

It is state mandated now here in California to wear masks, so you will have to wear a mask to go inside any business.

The article explains all the details.

The closest Cinemark reopens on July 3rd. I looked at the movies they are showing and I might have to go to see The Matrix on their XD screen.

AMC Theatres is now requiring all guests to wear masks when they reopen.

For those who didn't hear the news, they had a very loose policy and said they would not require masks. But, Twitter blew up and boycotts were threatened and they changed course less than 24 hours later.

Are those going to be at matinee prices or something, because who's going to pay more than the price of a month of Disney + to see one film (probably available on Disney Plus) in the theater?

Somebody who really appreciates the big screen. I’d see Empire if it was the original cut. THAT would get my butt in a seat!

Cinemark and Regal are apparently going to offer discount pricing for these older movies.

I watched a promo from Cinemark and they are charging $5. I assume Regal will do something similar and maybe even AMC.

This baffles me. Either the thinking is that theaters won't recover for a long, long, long time or there's something else wrong with the Spongebob movie. It's delayed until early 2021 and still going to video on demand, then CBS All Access instead of releasing in theaters:

https://deadline.com/2020/06/spongeb...al-1202966487/

I could understand if they either postponed the movie to early 2021 OR released it on streaming in August, but why do both?

Read some of the stuff about the surveys they have done about coming back to theaters. Most people aren't really excited to back, especially older people.

That Disney lineup of movies feels kind of insulting as they have no problem burying both the Disney and Fox Catalog with their ridiculous and outdated vault policy but it takes a situation like the current shutdown to throw us all a bone.

It makes no sense to delay the SpongeBob movie until next spring if they are just releasing it to streaming services instead. Why not just put it out now.

Isn’t there some inane controversy swirling about spongebob being gay? Could that have something to do with it?

It's Nickeloden, that wouldn't be something they'd consider a controversy. I also don't know why they arent dropping it now.

Rocky is a great pick. It’s been cheering up white Americans who resent blacks for nearly 50 years.

Still no firm date set, but Alamo Drafthouse is opening up with some new policies, and they made an 8bit video for it...

I don't know how you expect people to wear a mask through a whole movie and especially when you are eating and drinking.

The way cases of the virus have been spiking since Memorial Day (when most lockdowns were eased), I suspect movie theaters will be postponing their reopenings.

"You're asking me to do the bare minimum in life and it's just too hard". Please just copy and paste that going forward to save time.

They don't. Taken from their local website: "Please keep your mask on at all times unless you're eating or drinking."

Just buy a couple of extra large popcorns and you can eat through the whole film without wearing a mask.

Drafthouse has bottomless popcorn (and/or soda) for $6, so munch to your heart's content.
