I just think the general mentality with physical media and movie collectors is that if I can't own it for cheap, it's not worth it.

Most here have already said they refuse to pay $6 to 8 to rent digitally because they don't think it's worth it to them. $20 will probably be looked at as outrageous for some.

I abide by this mentality normally, but I do not have a problem usually spending $6/8 bucks on a day and date release. I do it pretty frequently for the smaller/indie films especially with rewards from Fandango.

I have been saying this is what studios should do and again, I understand why that price for blockbuster, but I don't think I would ever spend $20 to rent a movie, honestly. Even if Black Widow was doing this, I probably wouldn't. The movies they are testing this with are the right type of movies to do it with I think, but I just can't get behind that price point for me as an individual. I'm sure some families would gladly pay $20 to rent Trolls.


AMC should figure out a way to offer these digtally through A-List.

Not sure your situation, but if you're in a relationship and were going to see it in theatres together, $20 isn't bad for two people.

Regal Cinemas Closing All Theaters Starting Tomorrow Until Further Notice

EXCLUSIVE: In sign of what many are expecting is yet to come for all theaters in the U.S., Regal Cinemas is shutting down all their theatre locations starting Tuesday, March 17 as a precaution amid the current circumstances. All theatres will remain closed until further notice. Regal, is the second-biggest chain in the U.S. with 7,155 screens in 542 theatres in 42 states. They are the first big chain out of the top 3 to close. Many cinemas have been largely deciding to close down in compliance with local ordinances, many of which are limiting their capacity to either 50% in an auditorium, or like AM, 50 people.

Universal is giving children something to look forward to while they are in coronavirus isolation with the announcement that Trolls World Tour will be available to watch at home months before it had initially planned.

The sequel to the hit 2016 animated film that gave the world the Justin Timberlake earworm "Can't Stop The Feeling" is going to be Universal Pictures' first day-and-date release, meaning that on Friday, April 10, the new movie will be available to purchase on demand for a 48-hour period.

In addition to the announcement of its first day-and-date release, Comcast NBCUniversal also shared that its films already in theaters, including The Invisible Man, Emma, and The Hunt, are coming to VOD early on Friday, March 20. Rentals will be $19.99.

"Rather than delaying these films or releasing them into a challenged distribution landscape, we wanted to provide an option for people to view these titles in the home that is both accessible and affordable," NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell says in a statement explaining the film distributor's big move.

It's not a big movie chain, but Harkins theatres shut down as well through at least the 31st. I'm a semi-regular customer there aside from AMC.

They said in their e-mail that they will continue to pay their employees during this time.

I'd pay $20 for an early rental if it included a digital copy code for when the movie gets it's normal digital release. Watch it now and own it later.

Otherwise, there's only maybe 2-3 movies a year worth a $20 rental.
