They need to change their methods right now. Restaurants went curbside. Boutiques offered online shopping. Studios need to start showing their movies at home. They can reevaluate it later.

Sales still aren't what they use to be even with curbside. It's basically life support unless your Walmart or Amazon.

Premium VOD should have been the go to alternative, even if it was temporary. What did Mulan generate for Disney +? $270 million?

that money was not accurate. A generous estimate is around $70 to 90M. And it bombed overseas as well. It’s made roughly $57M from that. The movie was a massive bomb for Disney from what most pundits believe.

Grace Randolph estimated it’s made roughly $150M total, which includes Disney +. It needs to make $500M just to break even. Premium video on demand is not an easy sell for blockbuster movies because you have to recoup so much costs including production and marketing.

Obviously they should adjust while the pandemic is ongoing, but candyrocket said theaters would be closed permanently. Studios would not be okay with that.

I don’t think theaters should all close down but I’ve said before that I think there too many in bigger cities. There are at least 30 screens available within 15 minutes of my house. It’s over saturated.

All of the economics need to be adjusted.

I accept that plenty of people think this whole thing is an overblown hoax. Or maybe some just think somehow theaters are a safe environment despite pretty much universal agreement from the experts that they’re not. I would expect those people to go to any movie they’d regularly go see.

This thread assumes there’s a group that realizes it’s a bad decision to go to the theater, but just wouldn’t be able to help themselves from going for a specific movie. I don’t get that mindset at all.

This is where I am. There is no amount of spacing or cleaning a theater could do right now that would allow me to sit comfortably in a theater, relax, and enjoy a movie.

I miss going to the theater but I'm not taking the risk anytime soon. Halloween Kills would definitely tempt me more than anything else.

I'm genuinely curious. How many of those that are avoiding the theater are going out to eat in a restaurant? Because that is much more risky. I'm personally not doing either.

I'm still not even going to grocery stores. I know my area is better than most but I'm not going to risk it. I have heart problems (thanks dad!) and would rather not see how "harmless" covid is to me. Instacart and the occasional Door Dash for takeout.

Right now, not even an Oscar winning re-do of SW Sequel Trilogy would get me to a theater.

I'm not going out to eat but how is that much more risky than going to the theater? I've seen sitting in a movie theater listed as one of the riskiest things you can do, while outdoor seating at a restaurant is much less risky:

What's worse than going to a restaurant or movie? Seeing full parking lots at all the local fitness centers.

I could understand and agree with that graph if movie theatres were operating as normal and they were filling to capacity, but they are not. There is barely anyone going to the theatres. Restaurants, on the other hand, have been crowded... at least from what I've seen in my area.

Three movies come to mind: the UNCUT, UNALTERED restored original Star Wars Trilogy.

But *only* if there's a goddamned iron-clad, tested vaccine that the whole planet takes. Otherwise fucking forget it.

Because everyone saw the chart and realized movie theaters are not a safe place during a pandemic.

Well, if Soul and No Time to Die manage to hold onto their release date in November, I'll be there.

I've seen 4 movies so far since the theatres reopened in my area and I would go more if I could, but there isn't enough quality content . And I had to cancel my AMC A-List subscription for the time being because it's simply not worth the monthly cost right now. The last film I saw was a week or so ago called Infidel, which I'm sure 99.9% of you never heard of, was a low budget Indie that would probably go to VOD if there wasn't a severe lack of content.

The 4 showing I've been in have been severely slow. Probably the largest audience was when I saw Tenet three weeks ago on a Sunday when probably 15-20 people were in my showing.

That really sucks. I know Covid has killed or sent to the hospital so many people with underlying health conditions. So I don’t blame you that you simply cannot risk any extra curricular activities right now. You can’t screw around with a heart condition.

Same here. My local theater is mostly empty, I wipe the seat, arm, and head rests with wipes, keep my mask on. Feel pretty safe.

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. 👍👍
