Re: Disney/Pixar's Lightyear (2022) V: Chris Evans

I had kept forgetting to watch this on Disney+ since the summer. Finally got around to it. It was fine. The animation is gorgeous. It definitely went for traditional sci-fi action and if it wasn't for all the somewhat kiddie tone of Sox, it would've been a bit better.

Considering the budget of this was $200mil, I wonder how something like this would've been received if it were made as a live-action film.

It was more than just a peck on the cheeck. Buzz and Alisha talk about her fiancee (later wife) and they show them together over the years. What the film doesn't do is make it a big deal, instead treats it as completely normal and not worth pointing out. And that's why I felt it worked, rather than come across as "woke" (as can and has happened in other productions/media).

As for the movie, I loved it. I never got why people were so irked/confused by this. The teaser trailer with David Bowie's "Starman" was pretty clear about the concept by the tone alone, without having to resort to the text tacked on to the beginning of the film proper. The movie itself is a fun sci-fi romp, even if the final resolution felt a tad rushed. My only real gripe was Taika Waititi's character. I hated him almost as much as the annoying kid from Up.

By the way, is this the first movie to have a (third) post credits scene after the final studio logos?

Huh. Then that makes the negative reaction to it really appalling.

I agree. People got their panties in a twist over nothing. It was tastefully and naturally integrated into the narrative. That's why it worked for me. It wasn't a "woke" or LGTBQ moment. It was just a character detail.
