Surprised this is only a 2 page thread.

I was not that excited but this was not bad at all and maybe better than Oppenheimer.

Did I miss something or how did Bella become intelligent and smart after how she was acting in the beginning of the movie?

Maybe I sound like a prude but maybe it was borderline NC-17 with all the nudity and sex scenes

If you're asking this question it would seem like you missed the whole point of the movie.

The same way we all get smart, by having experiences, and interacting with people, and reading, and seeing the world...

Movies like this indicate the MPAA must have loosened up on its treatment of the depiction of sex. I remember a lot of time when directors discussed cutting down their sex scenes to change an NC-17 to an R, they often spoke of needing to cut out the "thrusting" part. When Summer of Sam came out, Spike Lee said he had to use optical dissolves during a sex scene in order to remove John Leguizamo's hip from thrusting. Maybe TV shows like Game of Thrones helped desensitize board members

I finally caught this on Disney+. I thought it was great, loved the visuals and thought that Stone absolutely deserved that Oscar, she was fantastic.

Spoiler:
She started with the mind of an infant (her unborn baby's brain) and it matured at an accelerated level, from infant to child to teen, etc.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but having seen some of this movie, would it be possible to get Lanthimos to adapt BioShock for the big screen? I know something is in development but it's in the early stages, and I feel if the property is done correctly, it could be good, and after seeing this I think Lanthimos would be the best to do it.

Also, Emma Stone was great.

I don't see how Lanthimos' style translates to a mainstream audience. His movies aren't that accessible and while I liked them so far, I think watching them is kind of strenuous.

The Favourite was a hint of what mainstream Lanthimos would offer.

Yes, The Favourite isn't that far off of other period pieces, but I don't see Lanthimos as the perfect fit for an mainstream action movie based on a first person shooter. The only connection is the choice of the settings. I think he's more like Wes Anderson and keeps on doing his own movies rather than a job for hire.

I suppose you could call it interesting but I found it grotesque. When I was a kid I had a mentally incompetent neighbor. She was nowhere near as beautiful as Emma Stone but that didn't keep someone from knocking her up and producing another incompetent child to add to her parents woes. This movie reminded me of her for the first time in many years. Bela became a prostitute because the director wanted to see her tits. A great performance by Emma Stone but exploitive and frankly nonsensical. There was no reason for her to keep lurching around like a 2 year old.

He had already seen her tits in their previous colaboration and they aren't that great. Anyway why was there no reason for her to lurch around like a 2-year-old? She was for a short part of the movie, mentally a 2-year-old.

Stone was a producer on the movie and had been developing this with Lanthimos since they worked together in 2018.

I agree the movie is grotesque. It's why I found the way it looked and felt so engaging.

I have a close friend I advised not to see this because I know the suicide scenes would devastate them. Because we all have different sensitivities based on our personal experiences not everyone is going to be comfortable with the same movie. And that's alright both ways.

I had no idea what Bioshock is but a video game movie that is beneath the talents for a guy like Lanthimos.

Bioshock is a video game that has one of the stronger storylines/backstories and could be made into a really interesting science fiction film.

Supposedly Netflix is developing a Bioshock film. The game is visually quite striking, so at the very least it could be a gorgeous looking film

Gore Verbinski had the perfect visual style for Bioshock and I'm still bummed that never came to me

While I can understand that personal connection, I think you missed the point of the movie.

Yeah, the point of the movie was to show Emma Stone get railed by a parade of ugly naked men.

Jamie Gillis is probably spinning in his grave.

While not the point of the movie, I did keep thinking of the tagline for the fake Seinfeld movie Rochelle, Rochelle when I was watching this: “A young girl’s strange erotic journey from Milan to Minsk”
