I assume the studio arranged for taped publicity interviews before the strike. They had to see today coming.
Stars doing the publicity is a big part of the business.

I guess I don't understand why the actors would bail on a premiere as i wouldn't think of it as work. Sure you might give some interviews but I always think of movie premieres as a celebration of your work and a chance to see the final movie with an audience.

They are contracted and being paid to be there to promote a movie for a major studio their union is striking against.

Maybe they can get their AI counterparts to finish the publicity tour.

Florence Pugh looks like a Pixar character come to life so that just might work!

The union prohibition against promoting recently released and upcoming releases really sucks for the actors. Not being able to promote a film a they're in could have adverse effects on their careers and pocketbooks.

If you're an upcoming actor/actress, having your big vehicle bomb could destroy your burgeoning career. Or an underperforming movie could also lead to losing out on other big roles or sequels. If I'm in that position, I'd want to be out there trying to get as my asses in seats as possible.

And then there's Tom Cruise, who earns a percentage of the gross on the Mission Impossible films. Not that he needs to the money, but if there's one thing I know about rich people, it's that they can never have enough money.

I can’t wait until a few here start bitching next week that this movie was way too long Even though it is Nolan. That feels like the theme of the summer.

Given it's Nolan, the main complaint will be how the blaring music and sound effects kept drowning out most of the dialogue.

I just hope Nolan keeps Oppenheimer grounded in reality like he did in the Dark Knight trilogy...

I have zero problem with long movies if their length is justified. But if your movie is just a continuous series of stunts/chases/shootouts, it shouldn't much more than 2 hours. There's no rationale for diluting your own product, especially in the case of something like M:I or John Wick, where the product is good. I should be leaving the theater wanting more, not sitting there checking my watch.

I don't expect Oppenheimer to be much of an action movie, so I don't think that will be a problem. Whether there's enough story, or whether Nolan is equipped to tell a story like this is, remains to be seen.

Yes, I agree. I don't mind long movies but they need to deserve their length.

I remember watching Andy Warhol's Empire, and thought that he could have easily cut an hour out of the film's running time.

I think I saw this movie when it was "Fat Man and Little Boy" and that was pretty good. Why should I care to see this? To see FloP's floppers?

Just a heads up, there is a 2-hour doc on the man Oppenheimer on the NBC networks, MSNBC.

To End All War: Opp and atomic bomb.

It airs again a few times this week. Highly recommended before you see this movie, unless you were a history teacher or something.

Friday, July 21 at 10 pm eastern, Saturday July 22 at 1 am eastern. It is also already on demand. 88 minutes without commercials

Christy Lemire (Breakfast All Day) saw it in 70mm. Out of the theater reaction.

Currently at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes with some very high praise in the snippets. Still waiting on Metacritic.

^At the end, she highly recommends a double-feature with Barbie.

And in this video, many others also plan to do the dbl-feature:

I can't recall the last time when a dbl-feature was in such high demand!

What am I missing with the Barbie/Oppenheimer double feature? The fact that they’re both released the same day? Is that it.

I’m not sure why I find it so annoying but I do.

Glad I am not the only one.

I guess it is supposed to act as levity right now in our fucked-up world. Wish as many people would give a quarter as much attention to our existing world problems as to dumb shit like this but whatever. This is easier and more fun! Ugh.

I am not getting all the love for Barbie. Granted, I haven't seen it and have no plans to because it doesn't interest me. The trailer looked horrible and cookie cutter.

I liken this to the monthly awful TikTok trends that keep happening with huge press and quickly fade into obscurity when the next one arises.
