re: Dune: Part Two (2024, D: Villeneuve) 2une: I Could Dune This All Day

Not that I personally have a problem with her annoying Marvel character with that horrible accent delivering stupid lines but she IS a lot better in other stuff.

This is probably a smart decision. Gets it out of the way of the horror rush of October, and places it well before the family dominated fare takes over in late November. Great time to get adults and the college crowd.

And to give it a chance of legs going into Thanksgiving and likely linger for Christmas.

I know the conversation's not with me but... I was really looking forward to Midsommar (it gave me The Wicker Man -- the classic original -- vibes) until I saw and hated Hereditary. Would the former still be up my alley or was I right to steer clear, given my feelings towards the latter?

If your issue with Hereditary was the wacky ending, then yes give Midsommer a go. It feels more of a piece and doesn't have such a weird third act twist. Seems less derivative as well.
But if your issue was more technical, like the whole look and feel, then you might not like this one either. They were definitely written and directed in the same manner. But Midsommer is the rare bright daylight hooror film and it that alone makes it different than most.
Personally I loved them both.

Hereditary just bored me. I didn't find it creepy, engaging, or tense. Just tedious. Given they share the same director, it sapped all my excitement for Midsommar, which as I said, I was hoping to be a spiritual successor to 1973's The Wicker Man. I guess I'll eventually give it a shot and hope for the best.

I'm with you on Hereditary, Midsommar worked way better for me.

Midsommar is Wicker Man adjacent on mushrooms.

I loved Hereditary (minus the ending) liked Midsommar. As with most horror movies, you need to be in the right mindset for em.

As for Dune 2: I mean, I'm still very much looking forward to it

^ Sounds good!

I’m going to have to watch part 1 again. I haven’t seen it since opening weekend (on HBOmax) and at that time I still had it in the back of my mind that part 2 was not guaranteed. I think it impacted my enjoyment of the first movie.
