I hope they've used the GNR song over the end credits.

After reading a review on another site I like they stated that this is deceptively marketed as a more of an action oriented movie. No matter it would be one I would wait for at home anyway.

Without reading anything, I figured action adventure drama, to the likes of Children of Men.

I can't say I am interested in this one. The other day I chanced upon a glowing review from IGN, but nothing the reviewer said piqued my interest.

The trailer before Dune 2 certainly seemed it was for an action movie.

Alex Garland is enough for me.

He's the only reason I am even aware of this. However, other than his name, nothing about this movie interests me. Even without knowing he was involved, Dredd, Ex Machina, and Annihilation looked intriguing to me (and I loved all three). But, even already being a fan of Garland after those three movies, Men looked like crap (and apparently it was, from what I read) and Civil War looks meh.

When seeing the trailer, I interpreted this as a fictional political thriller. Not some big budget studio action movie.

I guess, but rave reviews from a writer/director you like? That would certainly be enough for me to give a movie the benefit of the doubt. But that's just me.

Rave reviews don't really clinch it for me. Nor do negative reviews. By that I mean that I am more swayed by the content of a review than the final grade. I have seen negative reviews that led me to realise that, unlike the reviewer in question, I will definitely enjoy the movie being negatively reviewed. Likewise, the opposite is true. This IGN review falls under the latter category for me.

Nothing the reviewer says there makes me inclined to watch this movie. In fact, it sounds like a short film that was bloated to feature length.

Sounds like a found footage style movie set during a modern American Civil War, but without the shitty cinematography

You should watch the series DEVS on Hulu, also written and directed by Garland. Nick Offerman ia great in that.

Waaaaaiiitasec. Are you saying an A24 movie trailer is -- hold up -- drastically different than what the actual movie is like?! I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked.

^Is that a common practice for them?

IF I expect a action movie based on the marketing and get a romantic drama I would not be happy.

Bait and switch is not a good way to market a movie IMHO.

It sounds basically like it's a Drive situation. Using trailers to emphasize the setpieces, while it's a little quieter and more suspenseful. It has precedent. I fell for that with The Grey, as well.

Tickets are on sale for this everywhere. I had to go with the IMAX showing, because the DC showing was too early for me and schedules couldn't be worked out.

I just read this movie is 109 Minutes. That's great to know when it feels like too many movies are well over two hours or more.

I thought Men was great, personally. It's weird as shit, but I really liked it. Not sure I'm really interested in Civil War, but I do like all of his work I've seen, so I might still check it out.

A former regular here used to say, repeatedly, that no good movies are under 2 hours long, and even then only if they're rated R.

This only gets half of the equation.

He also hated all animated movies, as I recall.
