There have been several of these quirky caper/crime flicks in the last few years most have been duds.
This feels like one of them. But it a Coen so I will give it a go.

84 minute runtime, which means I can go see it and come home on the same bus transfer

I love Margaret Qualley's voice. Now if only she'd make a movie with fewer other people whose voices are so grating.

The two local critics did not like it. Punchlines delivered without the punch. Sometimes they differ but both agreed it was a mess. Said he needs his brother.

Man, I wanted to like this. And it's got some good stuff. It's raunchy and fast-paced. But for me, it just didn't hold together. "Trying too hard" really applies here: the tone, the writing, the acting. Which is funny, because a case could be made about Raising Arizona "trying too hard." But that movie fits together like a dark comic jewel. This one just sorta flops around, with lots of callbacks to other, better Coen movies. And it ends up being very forgettable. Sigh.

This film is a bit of a mess...another comedy that "thinks" it's far more clever than it actually is. I saw this two days after seeing POOR THINGS for the first time; now I think Hollywood has been taken over by the porn industry.
This film has less nudity than Emma Stone's film (although it still has a good bit), but a lot more sexual discussion.

On the surface level, I enjoyed this a lot. It's funny, it's a romance story more than a crime-movie, and it's got a lot of dirty sex scenes. The trails did a good job selling the film, without telling you everything, so the second half of the movies was filled with surprises for me. There's a great period of it where I have no idea where the movie is going.
I look forward to a second viewing, as like a lot of Coen Brother's movies, there's a lot of stuff going on, a lot of which I don't always appreciate or notice on a first viewing.
It does feel like there are a lot of "call-backs" to the brother's previous films; the odd-couple criminal pair from Fargo, a lot of Margo Qualley's dialogue has the grandeur of HI's in Raising Arizona.
It includes some great imagery. The shot of the racing dog is so unique and bizarre it becomes disturbing. There's a shot of fizzing champagne that communicates erotic satisfaction better than I've ever seen.
The movie takes place in 1999, and emulates the film-making style of a quirky late '90s film, particularly the use of overly stylized video transitions from one scene to another. Oddly, the senator's speech to the girls at the end made me think of the Bill Clinton scandal.
The soundtrack is outstanding, and the end credits does a neat thing I haven't seen before, where they list which scene the credited song appears in, which is handy if you want to identify a specific song.
I did feel like the movie had a few loose ends, and it isn't as cinematic as any of Ethan Coen's other movies, but it's the best movie I've seen from 2024 so far (Full Disclosure; the only 2024 movies I've seen so far are Lisa Frankenstein and The Greatest Night In Pop).

Yeah, the website is still there, but it's pretty much fully locked unless you're a member. Used to be you could search for movies and read descriptions for free (but without access to images and videos), but that seems to have changed.
Mr Skin also bought up the CNDB a while back and just links the address back to the main site.
The Recapped blog provided a similar service, but it also went (pun intended) tits up.
Not sure if there's any alternative these days.

I also really wanted to like this, but ultimately I thought it was just so-so. At least it was short though.

Just saw this; my wife and I were the only ones in the theater so it must not be too popular.
"Bit of a mess" and "Trying too hard" are good descriptors. The thinner thug's voice sounded really familiar to me but I couldn't figure it out even after looking at IMDB.

Yeesh. This was disappointing. Margaret Qualley certainly has her mothers genes and is exudes a quirky energetic charm. In fact there's plenty of solid performances. Colman Domingo is very funny with his little speech about the Senator. Also enjoyed the two hirelings who are in pursuit. It just has so little in the way of a compelling plot and really feels strained. It's like someone doing a bad imitation of the Coen's sillier work but with lesbian characters but it just keeps reminding you of how much better those other movies are.
