Wow. What a movie.

Just bummed the way it ended. Didn’t know. But, this was like all action all the time. I like the quieter moments which these movies have made excellent. But, this was fast paced action. Really liked it. I got to watch it again later with better audio. That took something out because this movie is all about the music. Which excels, but I did love the first soundtrack better. I just couldn’t believe the ending. I had no idea and was like Nooooo. And that was it.

But, these two are just inspired gems of movies, animation or live action. They took the formula and just twisted it in so many wonderful ways. This should take the Oscar again. Just fantastic visuals. I did think the colors popped a little more in first. I do, at this point, like the first better, but we’ll see on next viewing. That end though, fuck!

one question: if all those Spideys are hanging in the society, who’s taking care of their universes?

We saw this as a whole family earlier this summer and we all really liked it. Not much more to add to what's already been said, but I do have one story to share.

Of everyone in our family, I'm the only one who's going to pay enough attention to know that this was originally entitled Part One before the final title change. That said, I had completely forgotten to tell my family this was a "part one" and would likely have a cliffhanger ending leading to the next movie. Well, when it cut to credits, my youngest slowly turned her head to me with eyes wide, her mouth agape in a mix of smile and shock and said, "WHAT?!" I said, oh yeah, it's a "part one," I guess I thought I said that but maybe I didn't. She just repeated, "WHAAAT?!" Wow, she really digs these movies!

Yeah, my youngest is working at the theater now and has slowly gotten into trying to bring home some theater posters. She started too late to claim the Spiderverse one so she was bummed. So I was telling her just today that pre-internet these posters were the marketing tool so they'd hang in the theaters longer. Point being that if this was made a couple decades ago the Across the Spiderverse poster would be highly sought after because it probably would have had the "Part One" on it. It'd be worth something.

So, who were taking care of all the Spidey universes while the bunch of them were in the society? That part I couldn’t quite grip.

They're not constantly at the Spider Society. Gwen mentions "crashing" in Hobie's universe, so there doesn't seem to be sleeping quarters at the Spider Society, so they at least go home to sleep. One assumes they don't spend all their time at Spider Society, but come and go as we see Hobie and others do. Also, LYLA seems to monitor the multiverse, so maybe she gives alerts if something happens in one while that Spidey is at Spider Society, so they can go back to their universe to deal with, possibly with help.

^Obviously, but it still is a bit weird (if you want to get too technical). There are an awful lot of them there at the same time leaving their cities vulnerable.

Whenever superheroes are off-planet, thankfully there are conveniently no supervillains mucking about.* The timing just works out.

*Except like, Dr. Doom that one time or Thanos that other time.
Spoiler:
Look, it's something you just accept in the genre. Same reason why Thor doesn't just pop in and smack Bullseye into the sun in the middle of a Daredevil story about him fighting Bullseye. That's not the story they're telling. If that doesn't work for you, then I unno... the Avengers and X-Men have it covered while all the Spider-Mans are away.

Well that's true, assuming all the other superheroes also exist then New York in every universe is covered with Iron Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Punisher, Cap and Strange even if Spidey is out.

Re: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023 D: Dos Santos, Powers, Thompson) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thr

Finally got around to watching this last night. As others have said it was really great. I still prefer the first, but think this one was solid.

I don’t mind a long film, but I think this one could have cut ~10 miniature and felt a bit more crisp. For example, I agree the intro was a little long, and the future city chance seemed to go on forever.

Some questions/observations:
  • Have they not shown the 90s cartoon Spiderman? I tended to like that as it seemed to carry storylines across multiple episodes. With all the little cameos seems to be an omission (unless I missed it).
  • The animation seemed off, mostly for Gwen. I know they were applying different artistic visuals in different areas, but she seemed different from the first film.
  • I really don’t pick up on Miles being on the wrong earth as the scene was unfolding, so I thought that was done very well. So many other media transcribe those type of things, so really well done scene.

It's been awhile since I saw the first but Gwen's Earth/style changed based on her emotions in this one. Really nice touch even if it strayed from the first.

The real life woman, I think when Mr. Holes went time traveling, she was the same Mrs. Chen, in San Francisco, maybe, as in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, right?
