I initially thought that was an older poster and that was Dennis Hopper. When I looked closer I thought it was Harry Dean Stanton.

Dastmalchian one of the more underrated actors but with his look it is hard to ever picture him playing a good guy.

I have decent showtimes available at my two local theaters, but as of now not a single ticket is sold for any showing this weekend.
I have band practice for the first time in four years on Saturday so that rules that day out as well as Sunday. I’m sure the bourbon will flow.
I’m planning on going Friday night after work. It’s been years since I’ve been to a night movie.

Well I was reminded why I avoid one of my local theaters. One asshole behind me was on his phone the entire film and I could see the glow if I looked to my right. On top of that one guy kept making horse sounds the whole time. Super distracting. Even still I really really enjoyed it. I was iffy on the found footage concept, but it made sense. The whole thing really rides on David Dastmalchian’s performance and he really nails it.

Despite knowing it'll be on Shudder next month, I went ahead and saw it at the theater last night and really enjoyed it. As everyone else says. Dastmalchian is great in it. The movie is a lot of set up (all still enjoyable), but the end is a blast.

My fiancé also like it a lot, but she had a couple nitpicks:



As for the controversy brewing online about the movie's use of AI... snore. I do think the emergence of AI is a concern, but more so for areas of elections, war, social manipulation, etc. It being used as an artistic tool to help create a few title cards in a movie isn't freaking me out.

I thought this was straight to streaming. Looks like Shudder next month. Tempted to see it in theaters. This is one of the few very interesting movies that I’m hyped to see.

I saw this in theaters last Friday. Theater was probably 75% full.

I dug it, it was entertaining. Also happy to the lead, pretty sure this is his first lead role. Seen him in a bunch of small roles throughout the years, most notably The Dark Knight Rises. He did a great job in this

Was it more than 12? That's been the unbeaten record for me....Which, ironically, was from a movie that I saw on Shudder as well.

I think it was 6 or 7. It definitely did seem like it was never ending. As for the movie, I had a good time with this one and it was great to see David as lead. I have always enjoyed seeing him pop up in movies.

After seeing the trailer, and seeing Stephen King rave about the film, I went in with very lowered expectations.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The premise, the look of the actors, the re-creation of that period's media from the look of the talk show to the mondo-documentary footage looked great, both authentic and visually interesting. The story-line they came up with that took place all within an hour-long program worked. They picked right mix of characters from that era to create a lot of natural conflict to keep the scenes engaging.

And yet I was disappointed over and over each time the movie ignored the conventions of a late 70s live TV program, by having too many edits, too many camera angles, too many things the camera would not have been shooting. I suppose you could accuse me of being picky, but the fact of that matter is each time this happened it took me out of the movie, and prevented me from becoming immersed as I would have liked.

For me, the strongest part of the movie was the ending sequence, when the "found-footage" style is ditched completely. The tone and feeling of that is one of the best

sequences I can remember seeing a horror film. The filmmakers really created something unique there, and it really unnerved me, when usually I find these kind of scenes silly and cheesy. This is the first moment I've seen in a 2024 film that took my breath away.

After the movie, I was thinking of other found footage movies, like Theatre Camp, and read a line by the reviewer on Roger Ebert's old site that really resonated me; "Almost all of them [found footage films] cheat so often that you have to wonder why anyone wants to make them in the first place."

Although I mostly enjoyed this film, as a fan of the Found Footage sub-genre, these were a few of my grips as well.

The most successful films within the sub-genre, adhere (in all aspects) to the format aggressively.

With that said, David Dastmalchian was fantastic in this.
