every movie i don't like is overrated. and all the movie you don't like is overrated. it's all about your own opinion. i can just dream the day people will stop ask such dumb question
I will second this. This question is so ridiculous and it has been asked here about a thousand times. Next time do a search and then think twice about posting it again for two reasons. One, since it has been posted before, it really doesn't need to be posted again and two, WHO CARES!

Flame On!
Make this time the 1001st. It does need to be posted again because it's been a while since the last time someone asked this question.....people have seen more movies since then, and their opinions may have changed, also.
Tell me why this question needs to be asked in the first place. There is no such thing as overrated or underrated, it's all based on personal tastes.
Yes, it is based on personal tastes. I think that is the reason why he/she asked the question, to find out the opinions of each person. I guess you should never ask whether someone likes or dislikes something, because it doesn't really matter as it is all based on personal taste.

I have to say "Annie Hall" because it beat out "Star Wars" at the 1977 Academy Awards for Best Picture of the year. Who actually watches "Annie Hall" over and over again? "Star Wars" is just THE biggest blockbuster Hollywood has ever produced with an enormous fan base.

I actually watch Annie Hall over and over again. I can't get enought of the visit to Annie's house where Christopher Walken tells Alvy his dream. Their ride to the airport gets me every time. Plus, I just enjoy their conversations. I know I am in the minority, but I have seen Annie Hall many more times than I have seen Star Wars. And I feel most students of film would rate Annie Hall the superior film.

The people would disagree with the film students. The children would disagree with the film students. Star Wars was made for the children and many big children continue to worship the Star Wars saga with multiple VHS rentals and VHS purchases and soon DVD purchases. Star Wars may even be the most underrated movie ever since most critics do not care too much for the blockbuster movies made by big studios. They are so into the art films made by independent filmmakers and studios. At least Star Wars did win 6 Adademy Awards for that year even though they were all technical awards.

Pudthai, I'm not a film student and never have been. But I still consider Annie Hall a much better film than Star Wars in my opinion. I watch it all the time and always find it funny. Star Wars I watched all the time as a kid, yet when I tried to return to it during my college years when it was rereleased, I grew tired of it very early in. So I would have to list Star Wars as one of the most overrated films ever. Everybody loves it and it was groundbreaking, but I really don't think it was all that great of a movie. Just my opinion and I know the people who love it will disagree, but so what.

On an aside note, I find the people who posted that this was a worthless question and why react to it felt the need to not only take the time to post once, but return to read reactions and post again. LMAO. Now that is funny! Thanks hermit and palebluedot for the humor.

I do! I love that movie. But then again, I've never seen "Star Wars".

Yeah... but the the enormous fan base is mostly composed of losers. I mean, most people will shell $5 or even $8 to go see the Star Wars movie, and some might even buy the $12.99 VHS, but when you've got a stack of unopened toys that are two decades old, and you worship George Lucas like some kind of god, well, you've got a problem. Annie Hall is a better movie than Star Wars. And, honestly, great movies aren't the ones you necessarily watch over and over. You don't generally sit down on a Saturday night with a pizza to watch Schindler's List. Star Wars is a dumb movie about spaceships. Don't give me the "epic space opera" garbage; it's not.

Titanic. One of the worst Best Pictures ever. Not that it's a bad film, but did it really deserve to win against L.A. Confidential? I think pretty much all of its Oscars were deserved (especially director and effects) except the best picture one.

The people can't tell a good movie from a bad one. They'll shell out for a movie because it stars "J.Lo". People who pander to the average idiot, rather than producing nuanced work that intelligent people can appreciate are called sell-outs. And, incidentally, 30 year old men who live with their parents, so they can spend the money they should be paying for rent into completing a collection of mint-in-box Boba Fett action figures are just pathetic.

Thus the box office failure of Out of Sight (undeserved) and The Cell (deserved)?
