"Comptine D'un Autre été: L'après-midi" by Yann Tiersen (appears in Amelie during one of the many shots of her childhood)

"True Love Waits" by Radiohead (the live acoustic version on I Might Be Wrong: Home Recordings).

"Warning Sign" by Coldplay from their second album. That someone said it was bad song in the X&Y thread completely surprises me.

"Cannonball" by Damien Rice. I have yet to been able to finish that album. It's obscenely, repulsively, sad. I can't manage it.

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Love Me - The Smiths
Street Spirit (Fade Out) - Radiohead
Covert - Lush
Harmony or Goodby Yellowbrick Road or Your Song - Elton John
Rock and Roll Suicide or Cygnet Committee - David Bowie
Father and Son - Cat Stevens

hmmmm, I'll have to think of some others that do it for me. Since I started playing drums, I mostly listen to metal (which is usually devoid of emotions, but whatever)

Temple of the Dog's "Say Hello to Heaven" gets me every time I hear it (which thankfully isn't very often anymore)

"Memories of Green" by Vangelis always gives me a feeling of nostalgia and makes me emotional in ways few songs do.

There are so many great emotional songs, most of them listed here.

The new king for me is Sometimes you can't make it on your own by U2.

Written By Bono about the death of his father. Its powerful just to hear or read the lyrics, but when you see him sing it live, it will blow you away.

Some great lines.

We fight all the time
You and I… that’s alright
We’re the same soul
I don’t need… I don’t need to hear you say
That if we weren’t so alike
You’d like me a whole lot more

I know that we don’t talk
I’m sick of it all
Can - you - hear - me – when – I -
Sing, you’re the reason I sing
You’re the reason why the opera is in me…

Where are we now?
I’ve got to let you know
A house still doesn’t make a home
Don’t leave me here alone...

The whole idea of not talking, but can you hear me when I sing and you are the reason I sing is just too amazing.

Pure Genius. That is why he is the greatest front man ever. Some get bugged by the politics, but there is no denying his power.

I've never heard of this one. Where is it from?

(I'm a pretty big Radiohead fan)

And, on topic, recently:

My Bloody Valentine - Sometimes
Sufjan Stevens - The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out to Get Us!

Roy Orbison's "Careless Heart". One of the saddest singing performances ever.

I don't think I've cried at too many songs in my life. However, I have never cried as much as I have after hearing Coldplay's "Fix You". With everything that has happened with Hurricane Katrina and the 4 year anniversary of September 11th, it just somewhow really hits home. Already I can tell that song will be considered a classic.

When I read the title of this thread, I instantly thought of Leonard Cohen's song - Famous Blue Raincoat.
With that voice, expressing his resignation to his loss ... maaaan, my heart breaks every time.

Same with Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals - "Sweet Illusions"
Mike and the Mechanics - "In the Living Years"
Boyz II Men - "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday"
Boyz II Men - "End of the Road"
Boyz II Men feat. Mariah Carey - "One Sweet Day"
Nas - "Dance"
Puff Daddy feat. Faith Evans - "I'll be Missing You"
Tom Waits - "Picture in a Frame"
Nelly feat. Tim McGraw - "Over and Over"
Garth Brooks - "If Tomorrow Never Comes"
Garth Brooks - "Dance"
Garth Brooks - "Unanswered Prayers"
LeAnn Rimes - "How Do I Live" (played at my sister's funeral 3 weeks ago)

I'm not even really a country fan, but man, those songs are some tearjerkers for me.
