Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

I'll have to make a decision again on whether to sell off my December ticket and try for February, but it may not be any easier for me since I have two metal cruises booked for early next year, so adding a Vegas trip in the middle of that wouldn't help me much. Right now I'm already testing the limits of my company's unlimited PTO policy, pushing 8 weeks already, let alone adding another 3 days to go to Vegas for my Wednesday show in December.

I need to see this. I'm not the biggest U2 fan, but know most of their popular songs, and I really want to experience the visuals and amazing sound this place apparently has (I'm kind of a sound geek, and am rarely happy with the sound in most live concerts I attend).

Oh no. That was during the pre-sale. After that the Official Platinum kicked in and they are going for over $1000 for some seats . You can check Dec 15 now. The few remaining seats are in the 100s (and that section’s least desirable seats) and are going for $1,495. Who do they think they are? Adele😀 It’s probably cheaper going through the resellers.

One week to go and I’m jazzed to see it.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

Keep in mind they are playing Achtung Baby complete. I had a friend go, and was bummed there wasn't more Joshua Tree stuff, and not all this new stuff. I had to tell him AB was the very next studio album for the band. (They don't play anything from the last 10+ years)

I feel sorry that your friend was disappointed but the tour is billed as "U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere." Apparently there is some variation night to night but that album is the focus of the residency. The last tour was Joshua Tree. I'm not sure they do another album tour. There was already a ZooTV, Pop, and Elevation tour.

Also Larry is supposed to return for those shows.

Can you imagine how lit those Super Bowl weekend shows are going to be? Good luck finding a hotel room though.

At nearly a grand spent on next week's show, me and the Mrs are good with seeing it just once. But damn would have liked to have seen the whole band there.
I hadn't heard about them courting the Eagles, but I was wondering why they announced a bunch of L.A. dates and none in Vegas. They've played here a bunch over the years, even when not on a National tour. Maybe that explains it.

I had heard rumors about Harry Styles getting a Residency there, which for me is Meh, but my wife is a huge fan and saw him four separate times in three different cities on his last tour.

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

I may try for the last February shows for GA and first level and see what happens. Then I'll decide whether I'll go to my December GA show. Looks like they changed the pricing a little, they blocked out the back half of the first level, and made the entire second level the most expensive tier at $500. Then the entire third level is $400. Before only the center section of the 2nd and 3rd levels were priced at the higher price.

Nice, I passed on this round, I just have way too much going on around that time. It will be interesting if they add more shows into March and April.

My God, what a show and WHAT A VENUE! It really does sound amazing, so crisp and clear, you never hear live guitar sound like this, not at all muffled or distorted. And the screen is so damn impressive.
Kdogg and I were both there and were really lucky to catch a guest appearance from Lady Gaga, who was wonderful as always. Bono was in top form and Adam and the Edge were just great as they always are. Even for someone who is a seasoned vet, this show and this venue is something unique and worth seeking out.

Decker is spot on. I was looking to be impressed and damn was I blown away. The screen is impressive. When it’s used at its maximum potential I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s not used on that setting the entire show so it prevents sensory overload. The sound is crystal clear. I will say it’s loud probably the loudest of any concert I’ve been to and I’ve see Motörhead. Even with earplugs my ears are still feeling it. I hate to compliment Jimmy Dolan but it’s due here.

I was GA and didn’t feel I missed anything on the screen. The stage lighting doesn’t get the full effect though.

For anyone doing GA I didn’t get into town until about 1 pm. I took a Lyft straight to the Sphere and they were still giving our early GA wristbands. I was 526. There were about 100 after me then the regular GA crowd. I was about seven deep center but could have been 1 deep on the Edge side of the stage. Also there is a camera that’s occasionally going back and forth and up and down. It’s for the screen feed. It didn’t bother me. And lastly the pre show DJ drives a car right through the GA area so we pushed even closer to the stage. The business side of me wonders how the F does the underwriter sign off. Same with the limited exits.

I have GA for December. So if I go to the venue early in the morning (say 6am), I just pick up a numbered wristband, then come back at doors open time and find my spot in line?

They start giving out early bands at 8 am but you can wait in line before that just not over night. There might be some nutter with a spiral notebook making a list before it opens. Once you have the band you have to come back by 5:30. They will start admitting groups in blocks of 10 numerical to LINE UP. Doors open at 6:30. Regular GA is lining up behind the Early GA. For what it’s worth some people I talked to in line got there at 8:30 and where 150-154. At 12:00 they were in the 300s and by 1:30 the 500s. From your pictures it seems you like the rail so the earlier the better plus you have more time before you have to return. All this happens at the East entrance. If you are coming down the Venetian walk away exit the second? set of glass doors (not the one with another walkway, the one open to the outside then down the stair and around it the Sphere past the pop up shop. I just walked around the Venetian cause the casinos are a god damn maze.

Ugh, GA would not be for me. 😂

The 200 seats I had were perfect. Far closer to the stage than I had anticipated. Wonderful unobstructed views of both the stage and the screen. Definitely the sweet spot.
That middle picture I posted, while zoomed out a bit for the view, gives you a good idea of our sight lines.

There will come a point in my life where I can’t do it and that day is fast approaching but not here yet. I’ve seen a ton of the older acts just go to floor seating for arenas and small venues (Sting, Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel - he might do it for stadiums too) Even Taylor Swift did it in the US but strangely not on the international leg. I know the London shows are just three GA sections.

For the Sphere you don’t get the turntable color effect. You just see the each of the two layers. For the proximity I was ok with that. I don’t think I would ever get that close in a stadium. The small stage helps. They aren’t move more than 10-15 yards.

Decker did you catch the one glitchy panel on the other side around level to the 300s?

I noticed it in the part towards the end where the desert floods with water. After I saw it, I couldn't unsee it and it annoyed the hell out of me .

Re: U2 "Achtung Baby" Vegas shows

One thing I noticed when I watched my video clips (like the one above) from last night : Thanks to the Sphere's 160,000 speakers, every single video sounds amazing, like a live album, not weird and echo-y. Sounds almost fake, no mobile phone concert videos sound like that. It's because there are speakers pointing directly at you wherever you are seated. It's pretty stunning.
