I would say that is a pretty common and popular opinion among hip-hop fans who are not teenagers who only listen to hip-hop that came out in the last few years

Even if somehow you think somehow that Mac's catalog would be better without Dreams, Landslide, Silver Springs, Gypsy and Gold Dust Woman (which is in and of itself a assertion), there would be no Rumors without Stevie and the drama she precipitated. And this world would be a worse place without Rumors.

Omg, that gif brings back memories of my youngest son playing Ace Atty and yelling out "Objection!" at random moments.

Totally agree, but it will likely not happen. Metal, in this country at least, is still fairly underground (compared to Europe where it's much more popular). Except for many pop stars and media celebrities culturally appropriating metal t-shirts, when you know they don't listen to it, but the logos and imagery are too cool to resist.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

Nope, that's the one song on the album I don't like. I'll never understand why they left off the excellent Hey, Hey What Can I Do? and went with this song to fill out the album instead.

Genesis definitely bucked the trend of prog bands completely falling apart in the 1980's. I actually prefer their 80's output to the Peter Gabriel era prog stuff.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

Unpopular opinions. Hmm...

Metal today is a dumpster fire of a genre. No more creativity, no more songs based on literature, or catchy riffs, just brutal blast beats and shouting or grunting. Pass,

Bob Marley is the single most overrated musician of all time.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

Most overrated musician ever? Hmmm, by this point it has to be someone like Taylor Swift or Beyonce. Their fame far, far surpasses their contributions to the history of music. Garth Brooks might be in this category as well but he did legitimize an entire genre for record labels.

St. Anger is awesome.

If it takes a fourty plus person comittee to write/produce your three minute pop song you are nothing more than a karoke singer.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

It surprised me how many early popular songs weren't written by the artists who made them famous. Quite a large percentage were either written by someone for the artist who performed it, or were written for an entirely different artist who passed. That kind of changed my perspective a bit on artists being lesser if they didn't write their own music, provided the artists are giving proper credit.

I prefer Megadeth's middle era (Countdown, Youthanasia) far more than their earlier "classic" albums.

I don't think you are listening to the right metal. There are tons of subgenres (and sub-subgenres) out there where you could probably find something you like, you just need to dig deeper, the variety and selection these days is staggering, I can't even keep up but find new stuff I like all the time.

I am the same way with rock/alt-rock. People I know complain how there isn't rock-n-roll anymore and I always tell them you just have to look for it nowadays. It is being made, you just aren't going to hear it passively on your local radio station or on TV.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?

You don't even have to look hard, just get off Spotify recommendations and go into Bandcamp for whatever genre you want. Every Friday I go onto Bandcamp and scroll through the metal releases. Tons of stuff.

Guess my unpopular opinion is that while I like live concerts, I would love to see interesting streamed concerts like we had during Covid. Frozen Soul did a great streaming show with three bands that had random skits in between sets and unique locations for each band. Obituary did streams of all their albums live and then did a chat Q&A and shot the shit. I'm not saying they replace in person concerts, but it would be fun to have those events back.

I'm not spending $40 on a concert t-shirt for your bands name to be the only thing on it. Get an artist and come up with a well designed shirt.

I'm at a point in life that if your show is outdoors, I'm not going to it. Outdoor shows are horrible.

Tyler the Creator is what people thought Kanye would be.

I'm the opposite. My husband likes trance music a lot, and we've wanted to go see Deadmau5 together. But most of that stuff is indoors and packed, when I want to be on the edge, far far away from the rest of the crowd. He's got shows at Red Rock Amphitheater in early November, but I'm hesitant. High altitude, almost winter, lots of steps up (could they be slick?) Idk. Seems dubious.

I have heard (anecdotally) that many of those cases of a dozen song writers on one song are, well, not exactly money laundering, but a way to get money to people that you want to have money but they’re not really involved that much.

I have literally never ever cared about that kind of thing. Songwriting and performing are pretty different skills in my view and if it needs to be a collaboration then so be it.

See my comment about cover songs above for more of my thoughts on that.

I think it was just the early version of corporate rock (which as SST Records reminds us, still sucks). Record labels had producers, engineers, agents, and songwriters. You wanted to record for Play Tone records, you recorded Play Tone songs. Period, end of sentence, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Not that people like Jimmy couldn't write songs, it just wasn't his job. The songwriter writes the songs, the guitarist plays them, the singer sings them. Rock and roll musicians turned that whole dynamic on its ear though. Sort of like how rock and roll began to emphasize the band over just the singer. Next time you watch La Bamba, watch the scene where Ritchie plays his first gig with The Silhouettes, and his mom is so angry that they don't let him sing. Because back then, it was the singer that counted, and the musicians in the back didn't really matter, it was felt that they were a dime a dozen. Again, rock and roll changed all that, and you'd start to want to watch Chuck Berry play the guitar or Jerry Lee Lewis play the piano just as much as you wanted to hear them sing. Just take a look at how so many early rock and roll bands were just the singer's name. Berry, Lewis, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Ritchie Valens, Bill Haley and the Comets, Dion and the Belmonts, but it was always the singer in the band's name. That definitely started to change in the 60s, some guys from Liverpool had a band name that was more important than just the singer.

.
Two words: Porta potties. Who the hell likes using them?? I'm a guy and I find them disgusting, can't imagine being a woman. I think I've pooped in a porta potty exactly once in my life because it was an absolute emergency, otherwise I'm waiting till I get home. No way am I sitting down in one of those things.

That said, this month my band is playing a little festival at a farm outside the city, and we're jazzed about it. We played there last fall, and much to our suprise they had a building with bathrooms. Running water, regular stalls. Many of our female friends didn't come to that show because of the fear that it would be porta-potties. They'll be coming to this one though now that we know the layout. Also, a lot of the food from the concession stand is grown right there on the farm. It literally doesn't get fresher than that. Even some of the stuff they have to bring in, like the birria tacos, still had salsa made from tomatoes grown at the farm, they were delicious. Can't wait.
