Why does Marty feel the need to do a throaty metal wail at some point in EVERY song he performs? It's.fucking.annoying. Other than that he was one of the best of the night.
Deanna looked miserable on stage and was way off vocally, so she'll probably be in the bottom three, along with Neal and maybe Tara. I had high hopes for Neal, but now I see he's just another Jagger impersonator. I now appreciate Bryan Adams' voice a lot more than I ever did before.

I like a lot of the singers here, but they almost all sound like they should be trying out for a harder rock band than INXS. I actually liked Jordis tonight, and I hate Hoobastank. She sort of reminded me of 80's Heart with that song. I liked JD's performance a lot, but he lost a few points with that pointless dick comment, even worse that he tacked it on as an afterthought when he should've been leaving the stage.
Bottom Three
Deanna - Waaaa... you didn't like the song. She could've played with the arrangement but I'm sure she realized that would reveal her weaknesses. I can't imagine her doing something like "Never Tear Us Apart".
Neal - What a joke. It seemed like her brought the guitar out as a prop to distract from the fact his voice sucked on the song. It's not like he played much with it. But it looks cool on stage.
Tara - Wasn't great. Kind of a dumb song to demand. I honestly think she would've sounded better with the REM song, and vice versa for Deanna.
Honorary bottom 3 mention: Brandon - He didn't really do a bad job or anything, but I swear "Sweet Home Alabama" is officially the new "Most Played Out Song Ever". Between shows like this and Idol, countless movies, and everything else... I'll be happy if I never have to hear it again.

Well, I had Ty as my favorite but now I think JD has passed him. I thought his reworking of 'Hand In My Pocket' worked pretty well. Plus, his wardrobe choice is much more in line with INXS's style than all this hippie stuff that Neal and Brandon are doing.
I do think JD's comment at the end was uncalled for, but I also think Ty's reaction to getting his first non-glowing feedback was a little standoff-ish.
Other than that, I think Jordis still has one of the better voices and I think Marty looks the most like someone who might front a band like INXS. Most of the others were average at best.
Can't wait to hear more INXS covers tonight.

I may be in the minority, but I really like MiG. I'm SO glad he got the words down and did a good job. (However, how could "Walk this Way" be one of his favorite songs -- and he didn't know the lyrics to begin with?) I liked Marty and JD's performances, too. And there's something about Brandon -- may not be the best vocally, but it's like he belongs up there.
Neal was flat-out awful -- apparently, INXS and Navaro had taken their "Paula" pills last night. In fact, they were exceedingly positive.
My bottom 3 would be Neal, Jordis and Heather.

Ty wasn't that good tonight, Brandon and Neal were downright terrible (Summer of '69 has never sounded so bad), and the rest were mediocre at best. I give J.D. credit for making "Hand in my Pocket" a slightly more manly song, but I'm getting slightly tired of his "reworkings". What's he going to do next, a heavy version of "Beautiful Girl"? Heather was decent as well now that I think about it. The rest of them weren't really too memorible to me. Jordis continues to underwhelm me, and despite my earlier positive comments about Ty, I was completely let down last night by him.
Lastly, J.D.'s comment was really uncalled for. I'm sure the INXS songs he already knows are all their hits from Kick. I'd put money that he doesn't know the lyrics to "The One Thing" by heart.
One last question, is it just me or do they do weird edits to the songs they perform? There have been several times I've been sort of singing along and the lyric that the contestant sings is different from the actual lyric. Initially I thought they just kept screwing up, but INXS and Navarro don't mention it so my only conclusion is that 1)I'm wrong alot (which I don't think is the case) or 2)they sing rearranged or edited versions of the songs. Any confirmation of that?

They are definitely not making mistakes, just doing a different arrangement based on time constraints I would bet.
Looks like JD pissed off a lot of people last night.

oh my god, Neal was just terrible doing "suicide blonde". Tara was actually pretty good doing "Mystify" and the jessica was passable doing "Don't Change".
I'm betting Neal goes.
Kudos though that they picked two slightly lesser known songs for the contestants to perform.

I got the bottom 3 right (not a big surprise), and Neal was let go so the guys could have some more eye candy, but seriously, Tara's vocal are weak, and Jessica's vocals aren't really all that pleasant to listen to.
Will JD be ostracized in the house? Will America care?
If you go to the msn rockstar site for the videos, you'll see that the songs are usually 100 seconds to around 180 seconds, so songs are edited down, but I suspect as the numbers dwindle down, the song lengths should get longer, which will allow the band to see who's got the stamina for full-length songs.

Why oh why don't you like Jessica? First off, she is very pretty. She's not going to win, she gave the best of the 3 performances (although that isn't saying a lot), and this is a reality show. Why not keep the eye candy on as long as possible unless she's CLEARLY the worst. She wasn't that tonight. Honestly, aside from her looks, I thought she did the best job, but I did think Mystify was a tough song to cover.
Don't Change was the best song to get. Suicide Blonde was probably the easiest and Neal was awful. I missed him earlier, but I'm shocked he got past the first round. Not all of these people are great, but, by and large they are pretty good, and I didn't think Neil was good enough to even be in that group.
Gosh, on the one hand I want to see who wins, but I think I'm even more excited to see the next bottom 3, so I can get more INXS covers. Has anyone done "This Time" yet? Oh man, if not, I can't wait to hear it.
I think there was a woman who was the best of the group this week, but I don't know her name (she had some weird hair), as I'm new to the show and horrible with names. But I can't see a woman fronting this band. Yet, if you are going to stunt-cast for your band, maybe a woman gets the band even more media attention. None of the men can replace Michael, so maybe a woman would allow there to be no comparison between Michael and the man who'd replace him.
This is doing well with the ratings, isn't it? What can they do for a second season? Can they really keep it up, finding new singers for bands? And INXS was damn good, they can't just toss in Human League and expect it to be the same. This is SO much better than AI. GREAT SHOW!
PS-Saw INXS for the first time opening for Men at Work. I'm really old. Michael ran down the aisles deep into the crowd. He had a lot of stage presence from the beginning. I don't remember anything about the Men at Work set, not even Who Can it Be Now, but I remember INXS like it was yesterday.

I liked JD's comments about the fashion aspect about him dressing like he is ready for a gig and the others were trying to look like rock stars.

It might be in their best interests to actually have a woman win.
Considering that their singer killed himself, this show is really tacky to begin with. And if they pick some guy that's just a Hutchence clone, it's really, really tacky. At least if they go with a chick, she won't be compared to him like a guy would.
Now, say they're doing a band like Van Halen, then it would be okay to pick anyone they want since all pointers seem to indicate Eddie Van Halen runs off their singers. They might as well pick a new one through a game show.

Happy to see Neal go, now to get rid or Tara and Jessica. Is it just me or does INXS seem unaware that these people aren't picking their songs at random that they have to choose from certain songs to perfom.
The one guy in INXS's comments last night about "Paranoid" and "Purple Rain" got me thinking that they thought these kids picked these songs out of thin air.
