The problem is that in previous seasons Jack has battled Robocop, The Mummy, Warlock, Jigsaw, and Dennis Everfucking Hopper.
This year it's Babe the Pig's Dad and Silver Spoons.

Much of the dialogue is just flat or explanatory--stuff you already know. But story-wise, there are a LOT of leaps--you know, 24 always has leaps, things that make you go "yeah, right!", but they're so fun, you don't care. This time around, people seem to just do stupid stuff to make the plot twist. And a LOT of the plot has been borrowed from previous seasons. A LOT of things happen this time too that would NEVER EVER happen consecutively in a 24-hour period. In the past, it was easy to go with, but the stuff they have happen this time is just too much.
That said, I don't think it's unforgivable, but it is the weakest season they've had. They do address the things you mentioned, but not nearly as well as they could have. Finally, I think at least one main character, the president, was poorly cast this season. I won't spoil it for you, so that's all I'll say about that. I'd say rent it when it comes out at Blockbuster, it might be better back-to-back, but I'm almost sure you won't like it as much as previous seasons. Still, I'd watch it just to keep up with what's going on in the 24 universe, if you've got free time, in hopes that the next day will be better.
PS I say this as an uber-24 fan--I've always loved this show and always bought the box sets. But I'll be skipping this season's purchase. Yes, it's that unsatisfactory.![Smilie](/images/smilies/smile.gif)

All that is what I was afraid of, I sensed alot of it last season but I hate that far out shit. Its kinda why I hated watching Prison Break for the first time and wont buy into that show. Its a shame 24 is heading down that path. I HATED all the back stabbing and a spy or turncoat that is just planted for story.
Too bad Im a completist when owning DVDs and CDs, so I will have to buy this season. But I have no problem getting it cheap and will not buy until lower than $20

Id prefer a flashback season as well. I was hoping the whole season woulda have been Jack escaping Japan, going through jungles or whatever and trying to get picked up ala Rambo. It woulda been cheesy but better than seeing same ole crap ala Chloe

Like someone said earlier (and I myself have said a few times) there is nothing wrong with the 24 hours in one season format, the problem is the plot points we have been stuck with for 6 years.
I don't ever want to see the inside of CTU again. I don't want to see Chloe behind a desk on the phone. I sure as hell don't want a terrorist anywhere, or the president.
A small crisis is still a crisis. Make us give a damn about what happens and it will be great. I couldn't care less about that nuke going off this year. Nameless, faceless people died. So what?
And lets get that hot barfly back from Season 5 that Jack was living with. I care about her.

As for 24, I'm curious to know if that "final shocker" that they were hyping up in the preview for next week's episode is what I think it is. If so, it'll certainly reinvigorate the series going into its 7th season.

Everyone at CTU dies, Make it a Jack centric season next year. Maybe only Chloe lives, and she has to be all new commando agent or something.

Looks like keifer is listening as well
Spoiler:
About the future of 24, from Keifer Sutherland (via TV GUIDE)
Well, for starters, the show is in desperate need of a facelift — and Kiefer Sutherland knows it. "I'd like to see a huge departure [next season]," he says in the new, finale-themed issue of TV Guide. "We go back and forth from the White House and CTU to the field, but I'd like to see that change up. I'd like to see Jack work in the outside world."
