An interesting story about FNL. Maybe there might be hope for more after all?
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/...riday-nig.html
NBC has yet to decide whether to order any more episodes of Friday Night Lights this season but that may not mean the end of the critically-adored drama. A source close to the series confirmed that Universal is considering whether to shop the Kyle Chandler starrer to another network rather than cancel it outright. The source cautioned, however, that NBC hasn't closed the door on the show just yet. In fact, one scenario making the rounds is a shared window for FNL with one of NBC's sister cable networks. While struggling in the ratings (FNL has only attracted an average 6.1 million viewers this season and typically finishes third in its timeslot), the show is a huge favorite among TV critics and even beloved by many executives at competing networks because of its multi-generational themes. The drama has also netted an Emmy for casting and a Peabody Award.
FNL has already produced 15 episodes for this season, the last of which will air Feb. 8. Should the writers' strike end by Feb. 15, the show's writers could complete the final arc of the season in five or six episodes if NBC gives it the greenlight, according to executive producer Jason Katims. As of right now, Katims has no plans to write the final episode as a series finale. "I would do it as a cliffhanger and leave things open-ended unless of course we were told that the show was ending," he says. "But I doubt that would be the case because if they bring the show back to do more episodes this season, they’re also going to be hoping that the show returns for a third season."

That being said, this episode is certainly the last for this season IMHO. If the writers' strike ended today, they'd certainly have a tough time making the locations look like football season and NOT like Texas in winter. How does one writer an episode that MAY be the season ender but also MAY be the series finale. Me thinks I'm going to be left with a serious FNLs hangover after tonight.

Also, ESPN likes the show, although they have moved away from scripted drama recently, it could be a great fit.
I think this one has more of chance to be shopped than most.

It would be a very good fit for ESPN IMO. Plus ESPN and ESPNHD are widely available, so most viewers should still be able to get it. Best of all - it wouldn't have to get the ratings that NBC demands.

In all seriousness, I'm in the minority in that I think this season has been up-to-par with the last (aside from the Lyla Christian arc) and if it does end I'll be glad to support it with a DVD purchase.

Sheeesh ... Lighten up Francis. It's 9:00pm somewhere.
Also, they presented Julie's growth spurt
in a very obvious manner. The show has never been sexually shy about it, so why should I.

ESPN would be the best place for it. Not only would it be better than their other attempts at scripted programming, but they always tend to throw obscene amounts of advertising behind their original programming.

Street might as well be pleading his case to the NBC execs to keep the show going, but an earnest effort nonetheless. It would be a miracle indeed.
Just about every cut to Morris (Peter Berg) during the football game slayed me. Mo' and Coach getting after one another after slugging back drinks was hilarious.
Lyla is in a love triangle after all. Riggs' radio show was silly, but oh so Riggins.
Lance always knows how to get Matt's goat when referring to the "nanny". That football play for Lance was ridiculous, but that team was teh suck.
Smash had to eat some serious crow while getting many doors slammed in his face after his suspension turned him into a persona non grata. Good to see coach looking out for Smash after all.
If this is the end, it was a really good run, over all.

The actor that plays Matt, while understated really makes the character so effortlessly real. Matt and his grandma together steal the show and I would even watch a show just about them and his high school friends. FNL is at it's best when it focuses on Matt, Landry and grandma.
Lets not forget Herc, while relegated to a couple mean quips per episode, his character brings humanity to a wheelchair. He deserves a Herc-centric episode.
Somehow the writers lost Buddy this season. That is a huge loss.
