Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09
Well that wasn't too predictable - as soon as the Big guy went home, it was obvious it was a non-elimination show and that opened the door for Andrea to win the immunity. If it wasn't obvious then, all you had to do was watch the 90% Andrea editing to know what was going on. I do find it kind of funny picturing Andrea, who doesn't seem to be able to cook seafood, as head chef in a restaurant near a Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay restaurant.
Haven't seen any past seasons - do they ever go back and revisit the winner's restaurant?

S1 Michael was a head chef at Tatou in LA
S2 Heather was senior chef at the Terra Rossa restaurant in Vegas, but now works in Seattle.
S3 Rock was the head chef at the Terra Verde, but moved to PR instead.
S4 Christina is the senior sous chef, although the season said she would be head chef, at Ramsay's Hollywood restaurant.
Everyone had some sort of success out of Hell's Kitchen

The S1 runner-up Ralph went on to get his butt handed to him by Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America.

Season 2's prize was to be the executive chef at Terra Rosa, but she was only a senior chef.
So really, none of the contestants have gotten the announced prize (except presumably Michael who turned down the prize after the show had aired).

Thanks for the info folks! I don't see any of these folks truly running a kitchen at the Borgata... I could see 2 'head' chefs (where the winner is just a figurehead) or another chef who is running things with a different title.
Don't know why but I found it hilarious where someone asked the Borgata marketing guy how much square footage the space was and he said 'a lot' (that was a helpful answer)
Spoiler just in case (personal prediction)

From the previews, it looks like Paula might have a little trouble next week, but going on sheer talent alone and taking the entire season into account, there is no way she can't win this.
Not saying she could hold a candle to even the worst Top Chef contestant, but she is so far superior to anybody on this season's Hell's Kitchen it's not even funny.
Not taking dramatic effect into consideration the final has to come down to Paula and Danny with Paula winning.

Michael's prize for season 1 wasn't training with Ramsay, that was an offer Ramsay made on his own at the finale. The prize was his own restaurant which he was given "a chunk of cash" to start and $75,000 worth of equipment. He designed his own knives Skull and Cleavers but I don't think they're still available.

Well there's no way Andrea isn't going home next week. Final two looks to be Danny vs. Paula. I want Danny to win, but I have little doubt it'll go to Paula.

I'd consider it a toss-up between Danny and Paula. They seem to work at around the same level as each other.

Man, I hope that does not happen. I'd probably protest too, but that would mean no more Kitchen Nightmares to watch.
I'm really hoping Andrea was kept in for the drama. Agree, it's a wash either way with Paula or Danny. But personally, I'd much rather work with a "douche" like Ben than a "douche" like Andrea.

I'm rootin' for Paula. Andrea has that insufferable "I'm never wrong" certitude, and Danny, although I wouldn't be that bothered if he won, has a quietly weasely arrogance. He reminds me of Michael from the first season.

Well considering the promo for next week indicated it was merely a shocking episode and not "THE MOST SHOCKING EPISODE EVER..ER..ER..ER" looks like Andrea is next.

I think it's a close call between Danny and Paula they've both haven't made any mistakes during the dinner service and cool under pressure.
Andrea has NO chance of winning

The reward that Danny got was fucking lame as hell.
Other than that, it was a pretty standard Hell's Kitchen episode. Hardly anything shocking as the promos continue to tease us with every week.
Glad to see Ben get the boot. I've never seen such a douche bag oversell how good he is than Ben.
I'm definitely rooting for a Danny and Paula final 2.
I'm still puzzled how the hell this was shot 2 years ago and nothing has leaked about who the winner is. Wouldn't the winner be working by now? I just can't see the winner being crowned in 2007 and having to wait until 2009 to start their job.

Andrea isn't going to win anything. She'll go this week and it will between the only two competent chefs in the competition. I'm guessing will Paula take it.
Could surprise me, though. I thought Petrozza had it last year (and deserved it moreso) but then Christina got it. So who knows.
