Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

I hope we find out this season as well. I fully expect that they might be given a chance to return to the present with the other Oceanic folks (assuming they return to the present at some point) and choose to stay to live out their years at the waterfalls... becoming Adam and Eve. It would be a nice way to end their stories, imho.

That's not the point. Whether or not you like them or not they are totally "LOST" we have no idea what happened to them. We saw them on the beach - flaming arrow attack - gone. No explanation. There were decently major minor characters. They had a couple of episodes concentrate on them. I can't believe they just disappeared. It took a long time to find out what happened to Walt and Micheal but at least we know they were leaving the island. Bernard and Rose POOF! absolutely vanished. It's just very nagging that we have no clue what happened to them. It's like some one staples two pages of the script together and just skipped over them.

Why did Farraday leave the island, then come back? Why doesn't Widmore just take the same sub?

???
In 1977, Widmore is still on the Island as an Other and the submarine is controlled by Dharma.

Since 1992, Widmore is neither Dharma or Other.

Still a decent question. The sub was running all the way up until late 2004 when Locke blowed it up. It brought Juliet in 2001ish. Sure they wouldn't have let Widmore on the sub, but he could have easily tracked it.

Easily? Do you know how hard it is to track a submarine, even if you're the U.S. Navy?

You're right. That's silly to think that a billionaire couldn't infiltrate a private group with a double agent or use some sort of computerized tracking device placed on a sub.

This is Lost we're talking about and everything is plausible and plays by real-world logic at all times. I must've forgot...

Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

There is a lot we don't know yet about Widmore's search for the island.

1.) It hasn't been established if he is aware about what 'The Lamp Post' actually is. We do know that he is aware Hawking is located there.
2.) Even if he tracks the sub, he would still have to follow it's exacts coordinates to find the island, which would be pretty damn hard to do. Keep in mind, the sub belonged to Dharma, not the hostiles, so Widmore may not know where to begin in tracking it. They probably drugged him like they did to Juliet so he wouldn't see where it was going in the outside world.

Was this in an episode? I don't ever remember seeing this.

I guess he started working as a grunt on the Orchid crew when they found the wheel but maybe he was moved to Ann Arbor when they found out he was a scientist. He's back now for time travel experiments with Chang.

Wouldn't this raise a few eyebrows about the rest of "LaFluer's Crew" with all the Dharma folks? I guess "LaFluer" could put Faraday in a scientist role on his ship, but then I doubt he would have been just a Workman at the Orchid in the first place.

Now that Hurley and Miles are all chummy with Chang maybe they should just break the ice and mention the fact that they are from the future. Why not? If you can't change anything and it's all pre-destined to happen then why not give this guy some hope that his experiments will actually work. In fact, tell him you know a guy, Faraday, that's here who has a whole notebook of stuff on time travel theories. I'm pretty sure Chang would keep any info on the DL since the station is so secretive.

Watch the 2008 Comic-Con video, currently posted on multiple pages throughout this thread. It is exactly as you just posted...

I've seen the video. I'm talking about within the context of the show in relation to how Faraday comes to know Chang.

The supposition I was commenting on suggested Faraday was promoted from Workman to "amazing-theoretical-time-travelologist-worthy-of-being-sent-to-Ann-Arbor-from-the-island"-man. I was saying that at that point in the story, it might have been a little suspicious that someone like Faraday just happened into the camp via a shipwreck supposedly looking for an older shipwreck.

Anyway, like you, I think Miles will drop the Maury paternity test bomb on Chang now. And with Faraday back to support and explain this claim, things are going to lead to the Comic-Con video we've seen.

I think Chang will look at Faraday like Ben looked at Jack when he needed a surgeon. Ben had cancer and a spinal surgeon fell out of the sky. Chang finds this amazing source of energy underground where if used properly one can manipulate time and someone shows up who is a time travel expert complete with a notebook containing a lifetime of notes. I'm sure he'll embrace Faraday and take him into the fold.

Yeah, that's easy one-on-one. It's when you have a larger group/corporation that is very strict and selective with their property that things get tricky.

I'm just saying the DeGroots and Dharma at large would likely question the coincidence of Faraday being on LaFluer's expedition if that's the way things went down.

No doubt. I'm sure things will probably spiral out of control very soon. We're already seeing evidence of that with Phil and LeFleur.

I wonder if we'll get the classic blunder of time travel where someone will try to stop 'the incident' from happening by telling people there's this huge incident coming and we have to stop it and then they, in effect, cause 'the incident' to occur.

When I first heard of this episode title, I thought it was going to be about the DI's experiments at the North Pole and explain more about the polar bears.

The reason it was called Some Like It Hoth proved to be more more entertaining than my idea.

He hasn't been on the show before. Can't speak for anyone else, but I recognized him from Starship Troopers, which is bizarre because he had a tiny role in it (then again, I've seen that movie a lot).
Sorry, I must have just watched him in something then and that's why he looked familiar. You never know with this show, so I try to actually pay more attention to the actors these days.

Hey all,

Quick question - probably covered before - is Jack going to end up being the "workman" corpse found in [was it?] one of the VW minivans in the future?

Ciao,
GEA-Guy
