Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

Yeah, you're right. It is pretty obvious. I just saw that video for the first time today.
The whispers have been theorized to be voices from the past or future. There was something with Hurley and a radio on the beach that comes to mind, also. The idea that they're actively trying to communicate through time I thought was pretty cool. It was more of an excited question, than a serious one.

I really like your theory. Dharma:TNG.

Its alright, JZ1276, we can't catch everything.

Chang also said, 'If I can keep this pinhole open long enough [to transmit the video].' That's interesting. Are they trying to communicate through time?
Sorry...I'm having a "stupid" day

I have a theory on the new group of players we have on the show. I have already mentioned I believe them to be the reconstituted Dharma, but I can take that a little further.

Consider what we know:

1.) Chang finds out about purge, sends his wife away with Miles.
2.) Charlotte also leaves with her mother before the purge.
3.) In season three we saw Olivia, the school teacher, with a classroom of children. The show has never shown us what happened to these kids during the purge, nor did it get back to what happened to Annie. Lindelof and Cuse have mentioned during the last few months that both Olivia and Annie play big parts in what's left of the show.

I'm going to theorize that not only is this new group Dharma, but many of them are kids that were taken away from the island by Olivia right before the purge, similiar to Miles and Charlotte. This explains why they seem to know a lot about the island, use a riddle question like Dharma did, and try to talk Miles out of working for Widmore. Who else would have known Miles was on the island as a baby but someone within Dharma itself?
Wow, awesome. I bet you are right on the money! You came up with this and didn't read it? Impressive. Most impressive.

Wow. I did see that video and didn't think about it at all. Man this show is awesome. There has never been a show like this before. One of my cousins want to wait until it's over and watch it all at once but I think it is much more fun this way and then watch it all over again knowing what we will know in about a year and a month from now.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention to these little subtile references, but What is a Hoth again? Is it some character in Empire?

Also, what was the name of Doctor Chan in the Dharma videos from previous seasons?

Overall, I enjoyed this episode even though I don't think Ken Leung is a strong enough actor to carry an episode. I did enjoy the Miles back story and what led to him going to the island. I'm assuming Miles has his gift from being born on the island?

I would have never guessed 2 years ago that Marsha Thomasson would somehow continue to have guest appearances even with her character's death.

Anyone actually going to watch The Story of the Oceanic 6 next week? Or are you all glad for the break>

It's the ice planet at the beginning of Empire.

Marvin Candle

All pseudonyms involving a candle in some way. Maybe a candle caused a fire that led to the incident. Who knows.

I only read the season's episode titles and watch the previews for the next upcoming episode.

Generally, I've seen people come up with a lot of great fan theories that have come true, but the writers tend to still surprise you with how they go about things.

Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

BTW, since everyone is talking about the Chang/Faraday video from Comic Con, how about this video from before season 4?

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4bTvAUVPyLI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4bTvAUVPyLI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

When this first came out, everyone noted that Chang went crazy to make sure the rabbits don't touch. We see young Miles and adult Miles in the same scene during this week's episode. Obviously the underground portion of the Orchid is completed in the video posted above so Chang already worked with Faraday and met adult Miles.

I wonder if the writers knew before S4 what rules they were going to use with time travel. So far, we havn't heard if they would follow the "same matter, same space" rule or not, but this certainly was an early hint at it.

My guess - they are somehow related to, or are Dharma Initiative, maybe even some offspring of the originals. They obviously have info about the island, and people who were on it. They are against Widmore, so that rules pretty much rules them out as "others" or working for him. I'm betting them want to get even for the events of what happened to their people during "The Purge", and have finally found a way to make it happen.

Also one other small non-related thing, but I caught it on a second viewing, and was wondering if anyone noticed it, too. At the beginning of the episode, the camera focuses in on a clock on a microwave. The time on the clock = 3:16 (as in the earlier episode title, and Ajira Flight 316).

The next episode, The Variable is supposedly for fans of The Constant from Season 4. Can't wait for April 29th!

Character spoiler for next show!
Spoiler:
Desmond & Penny should be in this one, as well as a 30-ish Eloise Hawking

That's cool, but I posted they were Dharma on page 2. Just didn't elaborate it in writing yet.

The only other possibility is that Mr. Paik sent them, as he confirmed to have had ties to Hanso/Dharma, and would want his daughter to be kept safe.

The title alone makes me wonder if 'Whatever Happened, Happened'. Regardless, 'The Constant' was the best episode from S4 IMO, so this one has big shoes to fill.

Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

I think "The Variable" is Desmond..... Daniel hinted in the season opener that the 'rules' of the time travelling do not apply to him: a message passed on from Daniel in the past was recognised by the present Desmond as a 'memory'. Desmond will probably play a big role in correcting the timeline and returning the Oceanic 6 plus Sawyer, Miles, Dan and Juliet to 2007.

No wonder it was removed. Hugo Reyes isn't a "Lost actor".

I would agree with this. It is Dharma

It's far too late in the story to be introducing yet another faction. At this point, the writer's are building towards the final season and climax.

I cannot wait until "The Answer" , or whatever they call it when its all over with.

They're going to have to hope the finale is goddamn perfect or fans are going to go apeshit.

Actually fans will go apeshit either way probably.

If it's any indication, when asked if they were going for a 'heart-breaking' or 'heart-warming' finale, damon and carlton answered neither, they were shooting for 'heart-stopping'.

They're a good pair of writers, and I'm sure even though the finale is unlikely to be completely mythologically satisfying (there will always be those who will point out more unanswered questions), the finale in the very least wil be exciting and emotionally satisfying. They've done it in the past four season finales, I don't see why not in the last.

I truly don't get the fasination people have for those minor characters. I have never really given them much thought as they are basically familiar filler characters that show up once every so often.

Maybe that has been my problem with this season because I am not enjoying it as much as past ones. There are too many characters to keep track of this year that have shown up from past seasons coming back into the story that I don't remember and didn't care enough about to remember. They have taken story time away from Locke, Sawyer, Jack etc...those are the characters I care about. I get that they need interaction with other characters but it just seems like an overload to me...

Without these Lost threads I would basically be lost.

Re: Lost -- "Some like it Hoth" -- 04/15/09

I have to agree. There's so little, precious time left in each episode that to spend any amount of screen time on any other character that's not major at this point would be a mistake from the producers. There's too much story to tell in too short of a time frame. To quote Bauer, "There's no time!!"

If they're not important, then they should have killed them in flaming arrow attack at the beach. They still have a role to play in that they aren't dharma, others, O6, or dead.

I just hope we see what happened to them this season. I don't want to wait around another year to find out where/when they are.
