Last night (Thursday), Leno showed funny internet video clips...Really? I mean they were funny but that's the type of thing you'd see in syndication on a Saturday afternoon. My other nitpicky criticism is that black stripe in his hair. I find it really distracting.
It's only the second week, so hopefully they'll work out the bugs.

Haven't gotten around to checking this out yet, so I thought I'd see what others were thinking. Looks like it's a repackaged Tonight Show, but at 10/9 central. Problem is, one of the reasons I think late night shows work is because they are on late, when there really isn't anything else on anyway. I think it's a much harder sell in prime time. That being said, isn't it mostly interchangeable law and hospital dramas on during this hour (neither of which I can stand to watch)? So maybe it will find it's audience.

Looks like it had it's lowest viewer total thus far. But, it didn't exactly have a strong lead-in either (5.36m down to 4.99m). It had more viewers than SNL though.

Networks Snub Jay Leno
t has been a little less than a month since Jay Leno made television history by bringing his Late Night style show to primetime. Mixed reviews and semi-decent ratings are not the biggest challenge facing Leno and the NBC team, it is the network boycott that is happening. Other networks such as CBS and ABC are discouraging their talent from appearing on the Jay Leno show. The snub is all about business; the other networks don't want to compete therefore they are doing whatever it takes to keep their talent off Leno, even if that means losing promoting of their TV show. Do you think it is fair that the other networks are trying to hold their talent off Jay Leno?
Last Tuesday, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of The New Adventures of Old Christine went against her bosses wishes and appeared on the primetime talk show. Louis-Dreyfus talked about the uncomfortable pressure she felt when she was deciding to appear on her long time friend's show. The star said, "Yes, there was a little pressure, because as you know you are now on prime time and I'm on a different network." Having history with Jay, the actress went on, had a blast, and even plugged her show on CBS.
To make way for Jay at 10pm many shows were up on the chopping block. ER finally ran its course after fifteen years and was saved the horror of renewal. Many other shows were not as lucky; Lipstick Jungle, My Name Is Earl, Kings, Knight Rider, and finally Medium, which was quickly picked up by CBS.
While Louis-Dreyfus crossed territoriy lines, many will not make the same move. John Wells, the executive producer of ER and The West Wing, was not as friendly as the primetime CBS star. Wells said, "We lost five hours' worth of time periods that have been known throughout the history of the network for putting some really terrific shows on." Bringing Jay on primetime cut five other shows, which have left many fans upset. Wells went on to say, "I wish NBC and Jay Leno well; personally, he's a very nice guy, but I hope he falls flat on his face and we get five dramas back."

I'd rather watch Leno than most of the dramas on any of the networks, let alone the poor selection NBC's had lately. Leno has plenty of NBC tv, cable tv, and movie stars to book. It doesn't matter if CBS and ABC tell their talent to ignore the show.

I can't remember the last time I watched a drama (let alone any 1 hour show) on NBC so I could care less.
I watch Leno maybe 2 or 3 days a week and from what I've seen and seeing what the ratings have been like (5-7 mil a night), I think NBC made the right choice taking this show primetime.

Anyone want to wager that Jay will once again host the 'Tonight Show' someday?
I'm not saying it'll happen tomorrow or next month, but if both shows continue to struggle, its gonna happen.

Leno will never host Tonight Show again, ever. NBC seems very supportive of Conan, and Leno doesn't seem to care what happens one way or another.

Putting My Name is Earl on that list is strait up dishonest. As part of Thursday 8-10 comedy block it's fate had nothing to do with the Leno move at all.

The cancellation of Kings and Knight Rider also had nothing to do with making way for Leno.
stingermck didn't identify where the story he quoted came from, but who ever wrote it didn't know what the hell they were talking about.

Please. The only five hours of programing that got cut from NBC's schedule was about three hours of Deal or No Deal and two hours of Dateline or Law and Order. The more successful shows that aired at that time were bumped up to earlier slots, and the shows that went off the air ran their time. With maybe the exception of Earl, but I blame Parks and Recreation for the axing of that show more than I blame Leno.
I try to catch Leno when I can, at least for the monologue then I go walk the dog if there's no interesting guests come on. But I do think it's petty of the other networks to snub the show like this. Julia Louise, for example....so what if she goes on there to promote her show? It's not up against Leno at all. And in this day and age of digital recorders, the networks fail to understand or care that people can record one show and watch another one at the same time. Shoot, you could even do that in the days of VCRs. If somebody really wanted to watch Leno and catch a drama on another network, it's not hard for them to do so.

Anything that pulls a live viewer from one network to another is a bad thing for the network that lost the viewer, period.

To be sure, NBC has long argued that the ultimate test for "The Jay Leno Show" will come when he is up against reruns on the other networks.

This was a dumb move. They could easily leave it in place to prove they're not losing money since it doens't take as much to produce, but that's the national NBC piggy bank, not the local affilliates' profits.
If they didn't do this with Carson, there's absolutely no reason to do it with Leno. People who loved Carson really loved him, but people seem to just not dislike Jay. He's really not very funny, so it's not like this is actually an hour of comedy vs. dramas.
They need to get rid of Leno and Fallon, but they're not likely to admit they were both mistakes.

Carson retired on his own terms and didn’t want to do another show. Leno was forced out and NBC put him in the earlier slot to keep him from going to another network and competing with them. Not exactly a smart move but that’s what happened.

Leno was perfect for 11:30 and Conan was perfect for 12:30 (until Craig started beating him anyway) and NBC f'd it up by wanting to keep Conan happy even though Leno was destroying the competition. They only have themselves to blame for this ****storm and I'm glad it didn't pay off.
