I went to his show in Sacramento last night and my God, was it hilarious. I wasn't expecting him to whip out the Walker, Texas Ranger Lever (or since NBC might own it the "Chuck Norris Rural Law Enforcement Lever"), let alone the Masturbating Bear (or the now-titled Self-Pleasuring Panda). I was almost on the floor in some spots, the whole audience was crazy.
Very fun night. Conan and company can put on a hell of a show. Deion Cole was the "special guest" and he killed. Overall a very enjoyable performance. Conan can really play a guitar.

I think you guys are making too much out of this. It seemed like they were just joking around and not being overly serious.

The G-Man was nervous and out of his element. It didn't help that he came off as a corporate shill. Note that when Andy came out, he let them have it.

Bill Carter, who wrote The Late Shift is now releasing a book on the Conan/Leno situation titled "The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy." It doesn't come out until September 16th but I've already got a copy pre-ordered on Amazon.

Same with the Minneapolis show (which I attended last night). Brian Setzer was the special guest.

I couldn't get tickets so I busied myself with a book club. It went well. I even forgot about the show. ...Until I opened this thread.

That blog laments how no one cares about late night ratings unless something dramatic is going on (Like the Leno-Conan thing). Looking at the figure, it appears they're just trying to pad their page count by using that headline.

TBS lobbying for Conan to win an Emmy for his work on NBC.

I'm not going to read a thread rife with fanboys who fully fail to see a point of view different than Conan's, but how exactly is Leno PERSONALLY responsible for this whole fiasco when the network likely got the wheels in motion and had the final word? Is all of the hate based on the notion that Leno should have declined any demands by NBC to supplant Conan? Even if millions were at stake? Even after Conan had his chance and apparently failed miserably at doing what Leno was capable of? I'm not a fan of either one of these guys, but I find it laughable how Leno apparently is Satan incarnate in this situation when many of us ultimately would have likely done what he did . Also, at this lopez guy being called a "troll" for going against the fanboy circle-jerk.

Jay has a huge ego, and did not want to be "fired" from NBC. He saw taking back the Tonight Show as a way to get back what he "lost" in the ratings and he didn't mind screwing over Conan to do it. Obviously with the help of NBC.

Just tuned to Leno for the first time this week. Wow, it sure is jarring not hearing the same music after all those years.

Jay Leno now says that he didn't want to give up The Tonight Show in 2009, or host a nightly 10pm show. His line is that he is just an employee and that he does whatever his NBC bosses tell him to do. Obviously this is not true. Leno is a huge star, and his Tonight Show made huge profits for NBC. In 2009, he could have told NBC that he didn't want to leave The Tonight Show and forced NBC to choose between him and Conan. OR, when NBC asked him to do his primetime show, he could have been honest about his desires and his expectation that the show would fail (he has admitted that he expected that the show would fail) and walked away from NBC. FOX or ABC would have put him on the air as quick as was legally allowable.
Leno is personally responsible, in so far as, as far back as 2004 and for the succeeding five years, he could have simply told NBC that he didn't want to leave late night, and if they forced him out, he would set up shop at another network. Conan never would have had the chance to host The Tonight Show, but he would have been saved the humiliation of being set up to fail, and then having the show taken away from him.

I want to see Leno's apologist here defend the claim that his ratings are better than Conan now.

Tonight Show with Jay Leno Posts Lowest Ratings Since 1992
By Kate Stanhope Sat Jul 3, 9:10 AM PDT
Less than six months after Jay Leno returned to hosting The Tonight Show, the show's ratings are the lowest they've been since 1992, Variety reports.
In the second quarter of this year, the average total audience declined from 5 million viewers last year to 4 million viewers. This time last year featured a number of high-profile episodes, including an interview with President Barack Obama, Leno's final night and Conan O'Brien's debut as host.

The Tonight Show still beat David Letterman in the adults-18-to-49 demo, as well as in total audience. Late Show with David Letterman also dropped to its lowest audience totals since the show's first year on the air (1993), averaging 3.3 million viewers in the second quarter this year. Late Show was also topped by Nightline in total viewers for the first time since 2000, with Nightline averaging 3.7 million viewers.
When Leno returned to the Tonight Show desk in March, he attracted an impressive 6.6 million viewers. However, his second first night hosting was still 58 percent lower than O'Brien's ratings on his first night on the job in June of 2009.
