I like Seth Meyers. As long as it wasn't just a 30 minute nightly Weekend Update, I'd probably watch it off and on.

He spends way too much time with the games and skits. By the time the first guest is on, the show is almost half over. The second guest gets a few minutes of airtime and then there's the (usually) lousy musical guest.

I'm talking about the 7-minute gigglefests where he and Steve Carrell pretend they used to be on a soap opera together or he and Matthew Broderick make pizzas with mannequin arms or he and Justin Bieber act like teenage girls in the basement.
I've never seen any of those go viral.

I'm not talking about the musical parodies that last 2 minutes and feature talent.

Yeah, it's no big deal really. I watch online and I just skip to the middle anyway. If they ever actually added 30 minutes to it, it wouldn't affect my net time much.

Jay Leno's Tonight Show Ratings BOOM Confuses The Hell Out Of NBC Execs Trying To Can Him!

Like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football, NBC just whiffed again!
In the past year, the flailing network needlessly torpedoed Ann Curry's career, completely bumbled the coverage of the Olympics, and even announced the premature death of astronaut rock legend Neil Young!
Replacing Jay Leno on The Tonight Show with the younger Jimmy Fallon is just about the only thing they did right!!
…Or did they?!
As it turns out, Jay's sweeps ratings are in and they're phenomenal. He is CRUSHING David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel right now!
Mr. Fallon is winning the 12:35 slot with Late Night, but his numbers aren't nearly as favorable!!
Uh oh!! Positive ratings might put NBC in quite the pickle!! Mmmm, PICKLES!!
Do U think they'll really yank their only hot tamale OR will NBC backtrack again and extend a contract to holographic Jay through 2085?

NBC Dumps $25 Million Jimmy Fallon NYC 'Tonight Show' Studio
The network scraps its plan for a brand-new facility as the host will vacate his current home this summer for a less pricey renovation.

Despite months of planning, Jimmy Fallon won't be getting a big, new $25 million studio at 30 Rock after all when he takes over The Tonight Show and moves it to New York in 2014.
Insiders tell THR that NBC spent seven months working on plans that called for the combining of Studios 6B and 8G and turning them into a megastudio for Fallon as well as a showy theater for NBCUniversal to screen movies. Including a balcony, the facility would have fit an audience of 400.
The project, though, recently was scrapped, says an insider, and now when Fallon becomes host of Tonight, he'll have to settle for a mere $5 million renovation of Studio 6B, where he currently hosts Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The insider says Fallon and Lorne Michaels, who will take over as executive producer when Fallon replaces Jay Leno, are OK with the less ambitious plan.
Work is set to begin in the summer and take about six months; Fallon will move his current show to Studio 6A until Studio 6B's makeover is complete. When it's done, Studio 6B will have an entirely different infrastructure and look, and it will accommodate an audience of about 240, up from the current capacity of 189.
Outside of an upgraded stage built five years ago for Late Night, Studio 6B essentially is the same facility as when Johnny Carson hosted Tonight there four decades ago, so a remake was in order -- if not a $25 million overhaul.
One source says the reason for scrapping the more ambitious plan was some executives objected to losing Studio 8G, where Football Night in America is taped. Also, Studio 8G sits above Studio 6B, and combining them would have created a very tall studio but one no wider than each is now, potentially causing lighting and sound issues. Other insiders say NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke balked at the $25 million price tag and that some worried Fallon couldn't fill a 400-seat theater five nights a week. Counters an NBC rep, "That's simply not true."

Anyone remember when Conan "murdered" his old set? It happened in the late 90's. I want to say that it was summer of 98 or 99. Surprised I can't find it on Youtube.
Oh, and I don't really care what happens over at NBC.

While I can see the valid reason of not having 2 floors worth of a studio because of lighting issues & height being out of the frame most of the time, I doubt there is any issues about getting 400 audience members each night. NYC gets tons of turists that would probably love to get into a taping.

It's a real shame he can't find the time to do an occasional non-sports interview show (like a special every few months on HBO) since he excels at it wonderfully.
As an aside what does everyone think of Leno going to PBS? It's clear he's not doing this for money since he barely spends any of it and PBS might be his best shot of 'dying in the chair' which is what he seems to want.

This would be awesome. I still have some tapes around here of Later with guests like Seinfeld, Shandling and George Carlin somewhere.

I have such fond memories of those. His epic week with Mel Brooks where they ended up in bedsheets or the intense Rod Steiger, or the legendary Sid Caesar, Jack Lemmon, Paul Simon, John Frankenheimer. The great appearances by Siskel & Ebert. Man I miss that show. Bob was always so well prepared and the lack of an audience was essential to the intimacy of the format. Nothing like it since.

For the Tambor opening I wish they had made the credits look like the Larry Sanders show.

Not NBC but MSNBC just canceled Alec Baldwin's talk show.
Alec Baldwin fired from MSNBC after homophobic comments
Alec Baldwin came under fire from LGBT activists the other week when he allegedly hurled anti-gay slurs at the paparazzi in New York City. Initially, MSNBC decided to suspend his show, “Up Late,” for two weeks. But now MSNBC has revealed that they’ve decided to go even further and cancel the show.
The New York Post, the same publication who employs the photographer who received the anti-gay slur, reported the cancellation yesterday and posted a statement from Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, and a rep for the cable channel .
“We are jointly confirming that ‘Up Late’ will not continue on MSNBC.” The MSNBC spokeswoman added, “This is a mutual parting and we wish Alec all the best.”
Some have questioned whether Baldwin decided to leave of his own volition or if he was fired, but MSNBC claimed that “fired” wasn’t the proper word to use in the situation.
“The show is not coming back. He had questions on whether he wanted to continue,” the rep said. “Every episode of ‘Up Late’ has beaten CNN and the show has increased MSNBC’s audience in the time slot. Alec has been dedicated to developing “Up Late” and spent hours each week in production. He’s got great ideas and has a collaborative relationship with the show staff.”
However, the Post claims that Baldwin’s show suffered from bad ratings since its inception, with the last show pulling in just 395,000 viewers.
But Baldwin doesn’t think his show got canned because of bad ratings. He told The Gothamist that it got canceled because of gay men with influence.
“‘f—– is not the word that came out of my mouth. That I know. But you’ve got the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy—Rich Ferraro and Andrew Sullivan—they’re out there, they’ve got you. Rich Ferraro, this is probably one of his greatest triumphs. They killed my show. And I have to take some responsibility for that myself,” Baldwin said.
Perhaps Ferraro and Sullivan did add a bit of influence to MSNBC’s decision to can Baldwin’s show, but it’s more likely that the show was doomed because of ratings and that the cable channel used this incident, which is only the latest in a string of bad publicity moments for Baldwin, as an excuse to cancel his show.

These Tonight Show promos for Fallon are hilarous. They are focusing on the history of the Tonight Show but the two Conan references are literally blink and you miss it. Total screen time is probably under 0.5 seconds.
