It had, until Season 4. One of the best shows on TV, that turned into utter ridiculous crap and made all of their characters retarded in the span of 9 episodes. Hope they can rebound for Season 5.

Big Love S3->S4 gets my vote as well.

The Office season 3 to 4 and beyond (although I would say it dropped off from season 2 to 3 as well, but to me its gotten worse with 3 to 4 and beyond).

Weeds season 2 to 3 and beyond. Like others have said really great show for the first two seasons but just kind of fell apart somewhere in season 3. I still watch it but definitely don't enjoy it as much anymore.

Looks like everyone picked the obvious so I'll go with:

Smallville S3 -> S4 The show went from cool, superhero action to the Craft: The TV Series.

The Shield, as brilliant as it was its first 6 seasons, the Final season sucked.

I'm going with 'Heroes' as well....
Chloe Sevigny even mentioned Big Love:

She retracted later, but many people seem to agree.

Here's another vote for 24 S5 > S6.
And give an honorable mention to Big Love S3 > S4.

Outside of what's been mentioned, I'll go Family Guy S3->S4, Battlestar Galactica S3->S4, and Alias S3->S4.

Yes, the old Fred Dryer show. The revived version with Hunter transferring to the San Diego PD was horrible.

Re: Worst dropoff in quality from one season to the next?

Dexter S2 -> S3; S4 redeemed the series though.

S2 spoilers:
Spoiler:
Mainly because my favorite character (Doakes) died and wasn't in S3 and I hated Jimmy Smits character as well.

Also, Friends S7 -> S8. It just became unwatchable after Chandler and Monica got married. Paul Rudd was the only reason to watch S9 and 10.

Heroes S1 to S2 has to be one of the worst, though I was also disappointed in LOST S1 to S2 (almost lost ME on that one--so glad I stayed though!).

For me, OZ gradually declined in quality after the second season, but the drop from S4 to S5 was the biggest, I think. The show was almost unwatchable for its last two seasons (S5 and S6).

I'm surprised a few people have said that The Office had its biggest drop in quality from S2 to S3. I've been watching the show again on DVD over the past month and S3 is just as good as S2 if you ask me. To me, the big drop came between S3 and S4 (which is the season I'm watching now and will probably be selling after this viewing).

Re: Worst dropoff in quality from one season to the next?

Has to be Heroes.

I can't recall a show that dropped off as much from season to season.

I bought Season 1 on DVD, never got around to buying season 2, didn't even want to buy season 3 and now after season 4, I won't be watching in the fall.

For the Sopranos it was S1->S2 for me. It was still watchable and had some very good episodes over the following few seasons, but the magic was gone.

Veronica Mars S1-S2 is another one that didn't go bad, but just never reached the heights of the first season.

Re: Worst dropoff in quality from one season to the next?

I think you could make a case for Veronica mars S2 to S3, though... the college setup, and the changes they apparently made to get better ratings, just didn't do it. S1 to S2 I could understand because they pretty much set S1 up perfectly from beginning to end.

As for Heroes... it's really only had about half of a good season. The beginning of season 1 was pretty bland, until it picked up as they neared the end, until they threw it all away again, because apparently shows based on superheroes can't have logical plotlines.
