The O.C. season 1 to season 2. And then from 2 to 3.
Only reason I bring this up is because I've recently watched the whole series and the drop was very apparent, especially from 2 to 3.

Heroes, for me. Although I recognize that S1 finale was a bit of a letdown, the drop-off from even that was very drastic.

Hunter to Hunter: San Diego....And I'm dead serious.
Yes, the old Fred Dryer show. The revived version with Hunter transferring to the San Diego PD was horrible.

I'd also add Samantha Who? to the list. Sure, it didn't last very long and wasn't all that popular, but the first season was fresh; the second season got too bogged down in sitcom cliches.

wow, someone mentioned Big Love?
I'd always felt that show's quality has remained one of the most consistent over all its seasons...(so farr)
I'm going with 'Heroes' as well....

West Wing: S4 to S5, which is pretty bad since the last Sorkin season (S4) paled in comparison to the first 3.

I really like season six of Buffy, but the correct response is...
Season 3 -> Season 4. Outside of a few choice episodes ("Hush"), Season 4 is a mess. Once Riley bailed ship in Season 5 is when the show got back to being great.
Season 3 -> Season 4 of Angel works as another example too.
However, Heroes wins this thread. Season 1 was entertaining, everything else was shit.

X-files Season 8>9.
While seasons 7-9 were huge downgrade fromt he first 6 seasons.....I actually thought 8 was on par with 7. 9 was just a joke.

"Happy Days" season 2 to 3 (long before Fonzie jumped the shark)
"Millennium" S2 to S3
I was going to post Alias, but I couldn't determine exactly where it started slipping before I gave up on it. The same goes for 24, though I still watch that. Also thought the first 2 seasons of Smallville were great, but quit watching sometime around Season 5.

I actually thought season 2 was an enormous step up from season 1...seriously, probably the most consistently brilliant cliffhangers week after week...although I absolutely agree that it plummeted from there. Season 4 seems like an uptick to me, even if it's eclipsed by the first two seasons, just because I hated, hated, hated season 3 so much. I didn't bother with season 5.
