Re: The Simpsons *Season Premiere* -- "Elementary School Musical" -- 09/26/10

I didn't like this episode at all. The premise isn't really that new. They already did this a few years ago with Homer goes to fantasy rock and roll camp. I don't watch Glee at all so those references were lost on me. Those two guys were annoying too.

Quick question

Spoiler:
What exactly was the evidence that exonerated Krusty? I didn't really get what the video showed.

I thought it was an OK episode. Don't care for Glee, but I like Flight of the Conchords. It was cool to see Bret and Jemaine back on TV, even if it was in animated form. The rest of Lisa's story wasn't that great...I liked the Krusty stuff better.

Spoiler:
Krusty refused to play Sun City in South Africa (because his potato chips in his dressing room weren't half plain half ruffle) and Nelson Mandela was released from prison soon after and Krusty was credited with saving the world.

I did some research -- it was South Park that had an episode with this title already, making me think this was a repeat.

I thought this was surprisingly funny. I love Flight of the Conchords and was happy to see them get so much screen time and even kick in a few tunes too. Loved the subway bit - you guys are all just jaded

So the two clowns with guitars are a comedy act and not part of glee? What are they, the hipster version of Tenacious D or something? I thought all the New Zealand references were a little out of place given what I know about glee.

Seriously, I had no idea who they were.

Going in I thought this was going to be absolutely horrendous as I absolutely loathe everything about Glee.

However, I was surprised with the Flight of the Conchords and this was only a mediocre episode (at best), as a result.

I knew who they were but was never a fan and the first thing I thought when I heard them in this episode was that they were a cheap ripoff of Tenacious D without the actual musical talent.

I love the Conchords so I enjoyed their bits, but I can easily see how people unfamiliar with them could be turned off. Their type of humor does not mesh well with that of the Simpsons.

Jesus, how old are you? I can understand not watching the show but there are seriously people who don't know about Flight of the Conchords?

So, am I too old to get it, or too young?

lol...good question. I have heard the name of the show but know nothing about it either. I am assuming he was implying you were young. I'm 35, and, like I said, I know nothing about the show.

It was an OK episode, but my expectations are fairly low these days years. I did enjoy Maggie's diaper-filling reaction to Krusty winning the Nobel prize. And I enjoyed the song they sang to Lisa (and replayed over the credits).

Re: The Simpsons *Season Premiere* -- "Elementary School Musical" -- 09/26/10

I just finished watching this a few minutes ago and I have to say this was by far the worst Simpsons episode I've ever seen. I know most of the Lisa centered episodes suck, but this was by far the worst. I didn't think the Flight of the Concords guys were funny at all and I was completely lost on whatever the Glee aspect was.

I have no idea who they are either. I know there is/was a show on HBO called Flight of the Concords, but other than that I have no idea what they are. The only thing in this episode I thought was funny was the electric company scene. Other than that, a very weak episode, IMO.

I've heard of the show, but have no idea what's its about. I thought the two guys were part of the Glee show. The Glee/Conchords storyline was painfully annoying.

I thought about deleting the episode off the tivo without even watching it because of the Glee over-promotion, but ended up watching it. Probably should have just deleted it, only a couple of chuckles from this episode.

The Mary Poppins parody was superb.

It was for me. And Fox going in and out on my satellite dish every five minutes did not help matters.

Re: The Simpsons *Season Premiere* -- "Elementary School Musical" -- 09/26/10

I haven't watched the Simpsons consistently since the beginning of season 9. It was when the Simpsons took a major nose dive. Since then i've only seen maybe 3 episodes and the movie, which was actually great and reminded me of what made the show great. As others pointed out, this episode had some of the makings of what made the series great, which was good, coherent storylines that integrates the humor well, so that you weren't left clueless when you were trying to remember in what episodes jokes took place. However, it was still a mediocre episode in comparison to the gold age of the Simpsons and other shows now.

I wouldn't say the transition to HD is a gimmicky thing. Good animation is something rare on TV nowadays, even if done on computers, and what made the Simpsons transition from a good show to a great one was the amazing animation. It would be nice to see more "wow" moments visually in the show.

I just noticed something while reading this thread. People are no longer saying, "even a bad episode of The Simpsons is better than most other shows."
