Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread
A thread for those of us who want to freely discuss the series, comparisons to the books, future events, events foreshadowed, events left out, etc.
Warning to those who haven't read the books. Any posts below this one are open season. If you don't want to find out what happens later (in this book or subsequent books), you're probably better off in the weekly threads.
Hopefully this will remedy the situation in the main thread where there are two very different groups of people watching this, and wanting different things in the discussion.
EDIT: To clarify the purpose of this thread (since I'm getting some flak)
This thread is for those who who know this world and are up to speed with what GRRM has released. Others are welcome to participate, but they should be aware that anything in the first four books is fair game. When Dance comes out this summer, we'll spoilerize info from that. As another poster noted, Book four came out almost six years ago. Those who want to read it, for the most part, probably have.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread
A few random thoughts.
1) The wolves - I think they're being featured too little. Especially in the case of Summer and Ghost. And I'm not sure we've even seen Robb's or Rickon's wolf yet. And Robb in general seems to have been largely ignored. For the role he'll play, it seems like they'd bring him along more quickly.
2) I'm curious whether the show will ever revert to flashbacks. I think on some of the material that has to be covered to get viewers up to speed, and I'm not sure how they can do it via dialog alone. The whole story behind the Mad King, the Hound's backstory, the backstory behind the Lannister children and why Jamie loves Tyrion and Cersei hates him, the whole story with Jon Arryn, his son, and Cat's sister, etc.
3) Will they be able to pull off Hodor without making the whole idea seem silly? A guy walking around saying nothing but "Hodor" works fine on paper, but it's hard to imagine it coming off on screen.

In the book Joffrey is described as tall and handsome but in the series he has a weird face and for the viewer it's not plausible why the beautiful Sansa would fall in love with this cretin.

So, what books are within scope? Just the first one, since that's all that's covered this season? Not everybody has read all four books.

On a completely unrelated note, I got my hands on an advance copy of A Dance with Dragons and I absolutely cannot believe that Martin had Viserys kill Robb -- I totally did not see that coming!

Book 4 has been out for five and a half years -- I think we're past the spoiler window.

Spoiler:
Time to start re-reading the books, goddammit so much.

Was Hodor in the second episode? I missed him the first one. He should be heavy next week though I suppose.
When do the frog people show up?

He wasn't in the 2 episodes. I guess Hodor will show up when Bran is awake and need to be carried around which is next episode and the frog people will not show up this season.

The parenthetical covers it. If GRRM has written it, it's fair game.

Also, the opening post covered this. But, since it's confusing some, I'll edit the first post to make it more explicit.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread
I asked you all in the 1st episode thread if you needed a 2nd thread to compare the books and most of you said no. I guess the OP has me on ignore. ![LOL](/images/smilies/lol.gif)
But, this is fine with me. Discuss away about book 2, 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 etc.
Honestly I don't get the point of wanting to talk about future books when season 1 is only an adaptation of the 1st book. I get the OP is a book lover and a lover of the books, but what is someone supposed to gain talking about book 3 or 4 when the season that is currently airing is only on book 1?

There is already a thread for the books. This isn't a thread about the books. This is a thread about the television series. If we go start talking about the TV series in the book thread, we'll get hollared at to take it to the TV forum.
Also, the opening post covered this. But, since it's confusing some, I'll edit the first post to make it more explicit.
