I'm really excited about this. Thinking about it as my new "Lost", with all its faults and all.
I've read some reviews and they are average, so not expecting the same impact as the Lost pilot.

I haven't really read up on this but is this more fantasy based where they are tracking the inmates in their prime (more so like Fringe) or are they looking for these inmates 50 yrs later as far as aging? The later does not seem to be very interesting?

I'm a sucker for anything that Sam Neill is in. I'll be tuning in tonight.

I'll tune in to check out the full episode myself but the preview I watched a few weeks ago made this show look like a convoluted mess.
Here's hoping it's actually a decent show.

Word that this show looks to be a "prisoner of the week" procedural has curbed my excitement quite a bit.

Going into this with low expectations. Bonus points if it turns out not to be another procedural dressed up in fantasy trappings. I expect this will quickly settle into a killer-of-the-week format though.

Did you expect something different? My guess is that it will be similar to Fringe. There will be "monster of the week" episodes, but you get more about the overall plot with every episode.

+1 Fringe didn't start becoming a full out serial until the start of season 2. I don't get why people start rolling their eyes in disgust once they see the word procedural. There are alot of good procedurals out there with good casts and characters.

I fucking hate procedurals and monster of the week shit (X-files not included).
Hope they can make this interesting though because we will be giving this a chance tonite.
Hope it is more Lost than Fringe or warehouse 13 or something.

Personally I only enjoy procedurals if the characters are great. Unfortunately they rarely are.
Also most procedurals are so uninspired and identical, how can anyone not be less than exciting.
I'll give this a shot. I like J.J. I love Sam Neill and Sarah Jones. And I can tolerate Garcia.
Although it's probably not a good sign that Sarnoff has already been replaced as showrunner.

Yeah I'll give this a shot. This one and The River are the only shows I've been looking forward to. Both seem to have that Lost vibe. Then again, The Event had the Lost vibe too but I lost interest in that VERY quickly. Definitely hope it's not just a killer of the week type show. That would be lame.

Jack Bender, also from Lost, is an Executive Producer and Director on this show.
According to IMDB, he directed episode 2 tonight. Episode 1 was directed by Danny Cannon.

Just an FYI, it looks like 12 episodes will be produced, not 13. It's running for the next 9 weeks and the finale will air on March 12th (2 hours). They are also airing 2 episodes on February 27th.
Kiefer Sutherland's new show "Touch" will take over the 9pm timeslot on March 19th.

Excerpt from an inteview with Jack Bender and Jorge Garcia:
Since the comparisons to "Lost" are inevitable with both Jack Bender and JJ Abrams involved in "Alcatraz," Bender was not surprised when one of his first questions was about one big parallel between the two series - mythology. Just how will the "Alcatraz" mythology unfold? "Slowly," he said, sitting in the middle of the Alcatraz jail set. In terms of "Lost," he explained, "everybody says we reached our maximum audience and then people didn't join into the party if they weren't involved after a couple of seasons because it was a very dense novel and story and I think the networks are certainly afraid of the mythology of the show overpowering an audiences potential to come aboard the train if they've missed a few... I think that ['Alcatraz'] is going to walk that fine line hopefully because each week there is going to be a story unfolding that begins and end and there's still this overreaching 'what happened? How the hell did this happen?'"
Jorge Garcia added, "It's a mix. I mean there's definitely like a goon a week to go after for sure... it's like we're trying to catch them before they do something or before they do something again, as opposed to having one person died [and] who killed them? It's like this person's out there. It's more manhunt rather than it is like solving a crime. But there're still these unanswered questions as to what happened. How come this is happening? Because there's this very odd kind of tear in the fabric of what we think is reality to have people suddenly resurface after disappearing and having not aged at all."
